Hi,
I started 3 months ago and had no problems giving myself my shot.
Then 3 weeks ago I came off cymbalta, was having terrible side effects
and i have to say the withdrawal symptoms are worse.
That’s when i stopped being able to give myself the shots. i think
it’s from the withdrawal, making me have panic issues/fear of needle.
i can eventually do it, sometimes it takes me as much as 15-20 to get
up the nerve. now my husband is giving it to me sometimes just to
make it easier on me.
my doc and i are going to talk when i go back next week if i’m still
having issues. for the most part it doesn’t hurt, although when i

I am looking for an attractive case to carry my pen and needles in. I don’t
want anything huge. Basically something I can throw down into my purse or bag
would be great.
Also, I will be travelling by plane in a couple of months, and I am wondering
if anyone has had issue with getting their pen, and needles through TSA
security??
Thanks!

New Type 1 Diabetes Gene Found In Children
A team of scientists in the US and Canada have discovered a gene variant
that is thought to increase a child’s risk for type 1 diabetes. The study is
published in the advanced online publication of the journal *Nature*.
Type 1 diabetes used to be called juvenile diabetes because it mostly begins
in childhood. It’s an autoimmune disease where the immune system destroys
the insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas. Type 1 is fatal unless
patients get frequent doses of insulin by injection to keep the body’s blood
sugar under control.
More and more scientists are investigating the genetics of type 1 diabetes
and the hope is this will lead to ways of preventing and treating the
disease.

I have been taking the Byetta since Friday evening. Sugar went pretty low after
the first two doses, but I wasn’t overly naseous. After the 3rd dose, couldn’t
eat meat, and watching a Chili’s commercial on TV made me vomit.
Anyway, I am wondering if when I took my Byetta this morning if maybe none came
out?? I feel okay. I don’t have that yucky run down feeling that I have been
having when I take it. Any thoughts??

I am a 60 yr old male who has now been on Byetta for a week and don’t see
much change. I haven’t had any side effects that I can put a handle on
except for possibly a more full feeling.
I have heard a lot of talk about nausea; did folks get that on 5mcg or only
on 10 mcg?
My doctor started me on the 5 and I will be going to 10 at the end of thirty
days.
My BG numbers haven’t changed much or at all. My 7 day fasting average went
from 117.4 to 115.6 which is obviously nothing. Should I expect more of a
change ongoing?

source: Reuters Health - Adding some cinnamon to your dessert may
temper the blood sugar surge that follows a sweet treat, a new study
suggests. Researchers at Malmo University Hospital in Sweden found
that adding a little more than a teaspoon of cinnamon to a bowl of rice
pudding lowered the post-meal blood sugar rise in a group of healthy
volunteers.
The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition,
add to evidence from past studies that cinnamon may aid in blood sugar
control. However, it’s too early to prescribe cinnamon as a therapy
for diabetes, a disorder in which blood sugar levels soar because the
body
cannot properly use the sugar-regulating hormone insulin.
Dr. Joanna Hlebowicz and her colleagues based their findings on 14

I was wondering about the weight loss side effect. I was reading the posts
about giving a talk on Byetta and Wayne’s response to it. I am thinking that if
I am in a research study about a Diabetes drug and I have to report to doctors
then I will be taking care of myself well. If I eat to keep my blood sugars
under control I tend to lose weight. If I eat poorly then I don’t lose weight.
I know some medications do effect weight but so does work.

I am behind so maybe you have already done your talk. I love how much it has
helped my BG. I for me it is very important to realize that if I eat a snack too
close to when I take the shot it makes me sick. Even if it is a small snack.
You can make up a routine simular to my son’s. I was complaining about the
cost. I do have insurance and they pay but it is an expensive drug. My son
started talking about why it was exspensive. "You know mom it is hard to train
the lizard to spit in the little hole at the end of the pen." It was very funny
as several sons joined in.
I am going to give a talk about Byetta to the local diabetes group.
What does anyone think is the most important stuff to cover.

So sorry to hear about your Dad. That is very difficult.
One thing for was to take my other once a day medications at night. Then I wake
up with lower BG levels. Maybe some meditation to help with the stress and
greif. Listen to some calming classical music and go for a walk if you can get
your levels down enough to safely walk.
Hi everyone…. I am looking for some suggestions. I changed from 5
to 10 but the stomach ache and other bowel problems are giving me
fits. I am a teacher and leaving whenever I want to is not an option
to use the restroom. Is there anything that people have done to be
successful ? I was doing good on 5 and Endro wants me to try 10 (
this is the 2nd go around) so that I can get numbers under better
control. Numbers are way back up 240+ since the death of my dad
suddenly in 05/07. HELP ! I need to do something because between the
