cases and travel

I am looking for an attractive case to carry my pen and needles in. I don’t
want anything huge. Basically something I can throw down into my purse or bag
would be great.

Also, I will be travelling by plane in a couple of months, and I am wondering
if anyone has had issue with getting their pen, and needles through TSA
security??

Thanks!

When I started on Byetta last month, I got a little packet of stuff from my
doctor. One thing in there was for a free "Byetta Welcome kit" which includes a
nice carrying case for the pen and five needles. You can register online to get
    one. (www.BYETTA.com/welcome)

    ***Hi Stacy:

I haven’t purchased anything yet but if you google Byetta several thermal
type cases are offered for the pen. I’ve been traveling with insulin
syringes in my purse for many years and nobody has ever mentioned it. I would
    tear

the prescription label off the box of needles as well as the byetta pen and
    keep them in your purse.

I heard that refrigeration was not needed now, but the byetta welcome
website says: ** After first use, your BYETTA Pen can be kept at a room
temperature not to exceed 77°F (25°C). ** which means that for me (in New
Jersey) at least half the year you could easily have temps that exceed that
limit, so I guess refrigeration would still be required if I was travelling,
as I will be to Canada next month.

AHHHHHHH! Like a dope I just went ahead and signed up for the welcome
packet. It looked like a nice little kit to get, but THEN I got this
    confirming email:

*** Thank you for registering to receive information from Amylin
Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company. In the future, you will
receive periodic information via e-mail and/or direct mail. ***

Oh no, the LAST THING on earth I want. I don’t mind email so much, and I can
always set up a filter to divert it to my junk mail folder, but physical
junk mail is the absolute bane of my existence. Probably 90% of what shows
up in my mail is junk, and I’m always losing important real stuff because it
gets tossed out with the junk. I must get about 30 credit-card offer
mailings a week, on top of everything else!.

went back as fast as I could humanly manage to unsubscribe, but if I start
getting junk mail in my physical mail box because of this I’m going to shoot
    myself.

I keep mine in a cute little makeup case. It is big enough so that when I
travel I can put a couple of weeks worth of needles and I don’t need to
bring anything else. I also put my used needles back in there and empty it
    when I get home.

  7. Jody Hana Says:

I don’t mind the junk email, but the junk physical mail drives me nuts. I don’t
get much of it, but I would suggest since you get so much, that you start a
    recycle bin:-)

Hello Stacy, I went on a 5 week trip recently and went thru several
    airport screenings.

I did not have one problem with the Byetta.I packed the pen in a baggie
and put it in a ThermoCafe briefcase thermos along with 3 ice cubes and
a small thermometer. This kept the pen between 40-50 degrees for over 8
    hours.

This went into my carry on bag which also had my needles. Nobody ever
said one word about it. Once they did remove a 4 oz container of
shampoo, nothing more than 3 oz can be brought on the plane.

Hi Stacy. I’ll have to ditto what Marge said. I went through Alaska for 2
weeks carrying my Byetta in a briefcase Thermos, with the pen in a baggie,
and some ice in a separate baggie. Twice a day I’d change the ice, but even
the day I forgot, there was still ice in the baggie the next morning. We
went through customs at the Canadian airport just fine. I had the label from
the front of the box just in case, but never needed it. I did have to pull
the pen out to show them what was in the thermos, but it was absolutely no
problem. I even had a small thermometer in the thermos to ensure it never
got too hot or cold, and each time I checked, it was between 37 and 45
degrees. I just kept it in my little back pack carry on. Hope this helps.

I learned a long time ago - when the mail comes (if I
am home) sort it - toss the junk - put the good mail
in one place and then the junk is never seen again.
If you pick up the mail on your way in from work, set
it down until you have time to look at it and then, do
it the same way - you will never lose mail again!

Stacy, have you registered with Amlyn-Lilly yet? If not, go to
www.byetta.com/welcome and they will send you a box to store/carry your pen
and five needles. You should not have any problem with U.S. airport
security as long as your flight is domestic. Just be sure your pen and
supplies are in a Zip-Loc storage bag and tell them you have medications
with you. It would also be a good idea to bring along your prescription
label from the box the pen came in, if possible.

  15. Goldie Rana Says:

Deb, if you’re concerned about refrigeration on the road, check out
www.medi-fridge.com. I live in Alaska but some of the places my job sends
me routinely get into the 80s and 90s in the summer so I purchased both the
micro fridge and micro cooler (do a Google search to find better deals than
ordering direct - I think I saved about $10 each) and have been very happy
with both. The cooler comes with two ice packs and each will last around 16
    hours.

I heard that refrigeration was not needed now, but the byetta welcome

Deb, I’ve been on Byetta since February and aside from a welcome note when I
signed up, they’ve yet to send me anything but my storage case. I wouldn’t
worry about them sending you a bunch of spam.

  17. Jody Hana Says:

I am somewhat concerned about the temperature too. I am actually travelling to

Going through security can be different that’s for sure. They have removed
shampoo and perfume from my wife and checked, a few times, my CPAP, but I
have walked onto a plane with a knife in my pocket, forgetting that I had it
    and no one stopped me.

A lot depends on the airport you are going through. I have had TSA folks
that were rude and obnoxious and others that wanted to go through my luggage
but put everything back exactly as it was and were very polite.

I guess it is just like everything else, there are good and bad.

I haven’t traveled since I started Byetta, 9 days ago, but I have gone on
planes with lancets and my CPAP and normally have no issues at all.

Debbie, I got the Welcome Kit many moons ago and get very little, if
    any, email from them.

Also, I already had a Frio wallet for my insulin. So I now also use it
for Byetta. They come in different sizes, too.

  20. Goldie Rana Says:

Janie, do you have any problem with your FRIO? I spoke to several Byetta
users prior to purchasing my Micro-Cooler and the consensus was that it was
difficult to get the Byetta pen into the single pen FRIO wallet after it had
been soaked. I guess the crystals expand to the point that it is a tight
fit. I have something similar to the FRIO wallet that you soak and wrap
around your neck in summer to keep warm and find that even after a couple
days, it’s still damp. I don’t think I would want to carry something like
that if it might cause wet spots on clothing.

  21. Leanna Treva Says:

Oh I DO, I have a recycling bin right under the mailbox, and stuff gets
tossed there and does not even enter the house, and then inside the house I
have a shredder and tons of other stuff goes through there! I don’t so much
mind the stuff I can just toss into recycling, like sales circulars, but
those ones I need to shred, like all the credit card apps, take forever and
really make me angry, and make a mess!

  22. Irwin Mayme Says:

Hi, Michael. Mine’s a medium-size FRIO, I believe. It fits my pen and
pen needles in a plastic bag. Plus a Lantus bottle with a few syringes.

I bought the FRIO designed for the Byetta pen. After soaking, I could not

  24. Heather Chavez Says:

You soaked it too long. If you don’t soak it as long it doesn’t absorb as much
water and is not as tight a fit. It took me some experimentation but I got it to
work most of the time. There’s a section in the papers that come with the FRIO
    that talks about this.
