before i went on byetta my sugar was never low, always high. so
obviously it's doing what's it's supposed to but almost every night,
no matter how many carbs i eat, my sugar drops. last night it was
69 when i tested it. it's been as low as 50's.

is any one else having this issue? i went to the 10 pen 3 weeks ago
and am thinking of going back down to 5 pen when i refill.

Hi:

I am a newbie on this group and I had the same problem. My blood sugar had
gone down to 27 at one point. I am still on the Byetta but the Metformin was
changed to the extended release and the endocrinologist stopped my morning
lantus dose. When I saw him for the first time my initial A1C was 14.5 with
blood sugars running in the high 300's to sometimes 400's. My fasting blood
<!--more-->
sugar
in the morning was good but the major problem was aftrer breakfast, after
lunch and after dinner that I had high blood sugars. I was also originally on
humulog on a sliding scale aong with the lantus and metformin. He wanted me to
try the Byetta and stop the lantus and it has worked wonders for me. I only
started that three months ago but wonderful results in as little as 3 days. I
just had my last endo appointment on June 25th and my A1C was down to 6.6
from that 14.5 in October of 2006. He stopped the lantus in the morning and he
also switched me to the extended release Metofrmin which has not caused the
lows. I also have lost over 20 pounds during this. It has really curbed my
appetite. I am thrilled and he is too with the results. Since going on the
extended release I have not had any problems with lows so I am thrilled about
that.

Hi, I take no other diabetic medicine, only byetta. it seems to
work great by itself. other then byetta, i take a generic
synthroid, claritin, femHRT. today i saw the pattern, about 2-3
hours after shot my sugar drops low. between 50-80. sometimes it
comes up by itself, sometimes i eat something to bring it up. i'm
going to talk to the doc tomorrow. wondering if i should go back to
the 5 pen while i'm waiting for the cymbalta to get totally out of
my system. the byetta has some of the same side effects as the
cymbalta withdrawals. i'm glad to hear that i'm not the only one
and that the "official" byetta website doesn't say everything.

Thanks, Linda

p.s. wasn't sure how to respond to replies so i just went to my
original message and hit reply. is this correct?

I think you and your doctor need to consider all of your medications and how
they affect your blood sugar.
Meanwhile it would help to eat something before you go to bed. A
nutritional bar that metabolizes slowly would probably prevent the drop in
sugar. I
also always have gloucose tablets handy. I swim three times a week and am
almost always shaking from too fast a drop in blood sugar when I get out of the
pool....so I keep a bottle of gloucose tablets with the lifeguard and always
have them in my purse. They work in a minute or two...

<!--more-->
Good luck figuring it out.

I HAD TO GO OFF THE BYETTA BECAUSE IT CAUSED ME SEVERE LOWS AS LOW AS 27,
28......................BAZ........SORRY FOR CAPS

i know they say that it's not supposed to but i know it is.

before i went on byetta my sugar was never low, always high. so
obviously it's doing what's it's supposed to but almost every night,

is any one else having this issue? i went to the 10 pen 3 weeks ago
and am thinking of going back down to 5 pen when i refill.

also, i was taking cymbalta for pain management of my IC
(ichelp.org) problem and decided to come off it when i had too many
<!--more-->
side effects. my doc said that since i've been on effexor for 10
years and now cymbalta for one that the withdrawl symptoms might
take longer then what i expected to get out of my system.

problem is some of the withdrawl symptoms are same as side effects
of byetta so i'm having problems telling which is which (nausea,
dizzyness basically).

has anyone else going through this?

i'm only on my 3rd pen total (2 months of 5 and 3 weeks on 10).

thanks for any input.

p.s. i think maybe since i lost 12 lbs that maybe the 10 is too
strong. when i got diagnosed with the diabetes we caught it early
on so my blood sugar was never over 285 but hovered between 150-
250. my body seemed to be very carb sensitive but i'm wondering if
it's gotten better since eating low carb diet and 10 pen just is too
much.

p.s.s. yes yes know i am rambling, sorry :)
