Byetta ‘Experiment’

I wrote a few weeks ago that my numbers had started creeping up and I didn’t
know how much longer I would just be able to do Byetta alone. Then I read
where somebody said they did their injections on the inside of their upper
arm and decided to try that. My numbers have gone back down to almost where
they were. I’ve actually had my first experiences with some nausea - but
not too bad. It has been enough to help me stop eating sooner. It was only
a problem once. Last week I did my injection and sat down to dinner and had
to force myself to eat a few bites. I was afraid if I didn’t that I might
get a low. My fasting BG is running 99-100 now.

Today was the first time I intentionally skipped my second dose. But we had
company all day for the holiday and I knew the eating would be spread out
and it would be hard to eat within an hour and not eat any more. So, at
9:00 AM I had my AM injection (late for me) and breakfast. At 1:30 our
guests arrived and I had appetizers with them while we chatted - a few cubes

of watermelon and some celery with cream cheese and pineapple that I had
made. Then at 4PM we had dinner. I had a medium-sized stuffed potato (I
made them with sour cream and butter and cheese to help lower the glycemic
effect), a small salad with no dressing or oil, roasted asparagus, and just
2 oz. of lean grilled stea. At 5:30 I served dessert - homemade sugar-free
lemonade cake topped with SF cool whip and sliced strawberries. And I did
have a small "no-bake" - fudgy oatmeal candy that did have sugar in it. I
checked my BG at 6:30 (the first time I managed to get up the nerve) and was
surprised to find it was just 121. I have not had a white potato in a year
- a definite treat - but it was still an exception.

Anyway, I’m going to stick with the injections in the inside of my upper arm
for a while and see if it continues to make a difference.

I did burn a few calories from 6:30 - 10:30 getting the house ready for
guests - but did do fifty minutes of pool aerobics to make up for less than
optimum eating.

I have no plans in the future to skip my medication, but I think since I
stay in such good control all the time, that a rare day like today was okay.
