Spoonful of Cinnamon Helps Blood Sugar Stay Down

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

source: Reuters Health - Adding some cinnamon to your dessert may
temper the blood sugar surge that follows a sweet treat, a new study
suggests. Researchers at Malmo University Hospital in Sweden found
that adding a little more than a teaspoon of cinnamon to a bowl of rice
pudding lowered the post-meal blood sugar rise in a group of healthy
volunteers.

The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition,
add to evidence from past studies that cinnamon may aid in blood sugar
control. However, it’s too early to prescribe cinnamon as a therapy
for diabetes, a disorder in which blood sugar levels soar because the
body
cannot properly use the sugar-regulating hormone insulin.

Dr. Joanna Hlebowicz and her colleagues based their findings on 14

Fw: Weight loss side effect

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

I was wondering about the weight loss side effect. I was reading the posts
about giving a talk on Byetta and Wayne’s response to it. I am thinking that if
I am in a research study about a Diabetes drug and I have to report to doctors
then I will be taking care of myself well. If I eat to keep my blood sugars
under control I tend to lose weight. If I eat poorly then I don’t lose weight.

I know some medications do effect weight but so does work.

Fw: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Need suggestions on a talk

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

I am behind so maybe you have already done your talk. I love how much it has
helped my BG. I for me it is very important to realize that if I eat a snack too
close to when I take the shot it makes me sick. Even if it is a small snack.

You can make up a routine simular to my son’s. I was complaining about the
cost. I do have insurance and they pay but it is an expensive drug. My son
started talking about why it was exspensive. "You know mom it is hard to train
the lizard to spit in the little hole at the end of the pen." It was very funny
as several sons joined in.

I am going to give a talk about Byetta to the local diabetes group.
What does anyone think is the most important stuff to cover.

Andrew

Fw: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Changing to 10

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

So sorry to hear about your Dad. That is very difficult.

One thing for was to take my other once a day medications at night. Then I wake
up with lower BG levels. Maybe some meditation to help with the stress and
greif. Listen to some calming classical music and go for a walk if you can get
your levels down enough to safely walk.

Hi everyone…. I am looking for some suggestions. I changed from 5
to 10 but the stomach ache and other bowel problems are giving me
fits. I am a teacher and leaving whenever I want to is not an option
to use the restroom. Is there anything that people have done to be
successful ? I was doing good on 5 and Endro wants me to try 10 (
this is the 2nd go around) so that I can get numbers under better
control. Numbers are way back up 240+ since the death of my dad
suddenly in 05/07. HELP ! I need to do something because between the

Acidity and Glycemic Effect (for Jennifer)

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

"…..The glycemic index concerns only the first 2 hours of the postprandial
period. Research has shown that differences in the glycemic index of foods
narrow as longer postprandial time frames are used to measure it10. Ripeness
of fruit, the physical form of foods (whole vs. pureed), the type of a
particular food (macaroni vs. spaghetti), processing, and preparation all
affect the glycemic index10. In addition, combinations of macronutrients and
other foods eaten at the same time as the carbohydrate also have an effect.
For example, the fat content of a meal affects the glycemic response to a
particular carbohydrate, with fat resulting in a lower glycemic index3.
Increasing *the acidity of a meal can also lower the glycemic index*10. …..

Acidity, Ripeness, Fiber, etc and Effect on Glycemic Response

**
*What Influences the Glycemic Load/Index?*

Many factors help determine your body’s glycemic response to a particular
food, including:

- *Physical form*, such as a whole apple vs. applesauce. Mashing foods
tends to give them a higher glycemic index/load.
- *Ripeness*. The riper the fruit, the higher its glycemic index.
- *Fiber *– particularly viscous fiber, a type of soluble fiber found
in oats, barley, and other foods. Generally, the higher the fiber, the lower
the glycemic index/load.
- *Acidity*. The higher a food’s acidity, the lower its glycemic
index/load.

Hi, Andrew. Would it be helpful for them to know how to access this

byetta causing low blood sugar

Friday, May 18th, 2007

hi,

i know they say that it’s not supposed to but i know it is.

before i went on byetta my sugar was never low, always high. so
obviously it’s doing what’s it’s supposed to but almost every night,
no matter how many carbs i eat, my sugar drops. last night it was
69 when i tested it. it’s been as low as 50’s.

is any one else having this issue? i went to the 10 pen 3 weeks ago
and am thinking of going back down to 5 pen when i refill.

also, i was taking cymbalta for pain management of my IC
(ichelp.org) problem and decided to come off it when i had too many
side effects. my doc said that since i’ve been on effexor for 10
