{Disarmed} Re: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Hello from the lurker :)

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

It is not that once a week version of Byetta. Do you take that?
I would not mind taking it once a week. The one now is the #10 and it works
great for me.
Metformin for me no longer works as I said. That is why he changed me. I
asked him if it was OK for me to continue taking Byetta and he said it was.
The study is for something that starts with an L I think.

June 18, 2007 — The death rate for men with diabetes has dropped
sharply in recent decades, but similar declines have not been seen in
women with the disease, a new analysis from the CDC shows.

CDC researchers examined data from a national health database to get a
clearer picture of mortality trends among people with diabetes between
1970 and 2000.

While deaths from heart disease and other causes declined steadily
during the period for men and women who did not have diabetes and for

Hello from the lurker :)

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Hi Everyone!
I went to the doctor today, and it went pretty well I think! For now, I am
going off insulin, and going one one pill once a day. It is a new medication
called Januvia. And in Septemeber, I am going to be in a diabetes study for
a new drug that you inject.

I also started on a drug called Lyrica…which was suggested to me by my

Byetta and iching

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Found on a diabetes newsgroup, addresses some of the folk who have had this
side effect.

"I also take Byetta. The only side effect that I suffered, other than the
slight nausea/decrease in appetite the first 6 months (and a subsequent 18
pound weight loss) was an allergic reaction to the preservatives in the
medicine. It created a welt similar to a very large hornet sting every
time I injected it, and it itched like the dickens! My endo contacted the
company, who sent a representative down to counsel. It appears that about
1 in 100 people have that reaction, and the simplest solution is longer
needles. The reaction is only to the outer layer of skin, not inside, so
depositing the medicine further inside meant a smaller reaction. It still
itches slightly after an injection, but I no longer feel the need to rip my
skin apart, and the small welt goes away long before the next time I
inject. The needles weren’t that much longer (yay). I have had mixed

Byetta pen repalcement insurance story

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Just thought I’d share a recent experience in case this happens to one of you
some day.

I’d only opened a new pen three days earlier when I wound up with blood drops
inside. I called the number on the Byetta package and they had a replacement
waiting at my local pharmacy (Safeway) within hours. Then this past Friday I
went in to get a refill and drop off a new prescription. The clerk, who knows
me by name, already had my records pulled up and sait "I’m sorry, Mr. French,
but it says here that you’ve exceded your prescription benefits (MAX BENE RXS
MET FOR INDIVIDUAL) and we’re unable to fill any prescriptions at this time.
You might want to contact your insurance provider."

I went to my car but it was too late. The regional Blue Cross office is in
Seattle and it’s already past 6p.m. there. I went home and got online to review
my policy information but couldn’t find anything stating that I had an Rx limit.

sediment in pen

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

Hello everyone-I have been monitoring the chat group for a while-soaking up info
before I
started the Byetta-Today was the first day and the initial shot went well-I have
been on
Lantus for a year and used to be a nurse a very long time ago so giving an in
jection was
not a big deal for me-The problem was when I went to do the supper shot-there
was a
huge piece of sediment in the pen- I went over to CVS and the pharmacist gave me
a new
pen -no problem-went home and gave myself the second shot and ended up with
three
drops of blood in the pen, so I called the hotline-They went over my technique
and I
seemed to do everything correct-I did tell her that although the expiration date

Food List

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

I was just wondering if anyone here has a webpage or can reccomend one that
deals with the best foods to eat and the ones to avoid. I have a general idea,
but not exactly sure if it’s anything close to the Atkin’s Diet. My Dr. hasn’t
really told me much about what I am dealing with here.

I really like fruit and miss it a lot on that particular diet. So was
wondering if the fruits I bought today were ok. I got Kiwi (one of my fav’s)
apricots, plums and white peaches. I want to watch what I eat, but can’t do
the whole diabetic diet at this point, I don’t think.

Would appreciate any help that you all can offer.
Thanks so much,
Kathleen

"Dont eat too soon/Dont wait too long" ??

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

Hey, could you explain what this means?? I thought it was OK to inject Byetta
ANY TIME prior to eating… even 1 MINUTE before - which is pretty much what I
do, othewise, if I wait too long, I will get too nauseated to be able to eat!
I know abt eating WITHIN AN HOUR of injecting (no problem there), but I
thought the Byetta people said it was FINE to inject even a minute or two before
eating ….
Comments pls. ???
Thanks much,

WHAT THE GLYCEMIC INDEX
OF CARBS CAN TELL US

By Karen Collins, MS, RD, CDN

In recent years, researchers have looked more and more at
how the type and amount of carbohydrates that we eat can
affect our health. A recent study helps build the case that
the kind of carbohydrates and the quantity in our diet can
influence our risk for cancers of the colon, uterus and
stomach. But care is needed in evaluating what the research
in this area that centers around concepts called glycemic
index and glycemic load really says.

Glycemic index refers to how a particular food affects the
