what I have noticed:

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

if I do the shot in the upper arm (underside) it does not hurt as much
and no bruising. And I think less nausea too.
But I have to eat BEFORE 10 minutes or I am too sick to eat at all, and
for me the nausea lasts all day. And I have to eat a LARGE meal. Just a
few crackers do not cut it. So I have to plan it out very carefully. I
take the shot about 11AM with an early lunch—I am trying to lose
weight and I do not want to eat a huge meal too late. But this leaves
the second shot with not as big a meal and I do get nauseated. Do the
shots HAVE to be 6 hours apart? And do they only work for the meal you
eat right after the shot? For me it seems that the first shot works all
day on everything I eat….and sometimes I still feel too full by the
time I need to take the second shot too!

I find it a lot easier and less painful to poke blood samples from the arm..
either up near the elbow area or down closer to the wrist but never the
fingers.

It takes some practice to poke trust me…I’ve lived with this disease since
March 2003 and I still flinch when I do it. I think injecting insulin and
Byetta is less painful. I get tiny scabs on my fingers because I can’t get
blood out of my fingers unless my lancet gun is set on deep.

Pam, I still can’t take Metformin in the morning. I guess I just need more
food in my stomach, because it doesn’t bother me at night at all. It’s very
strange. I wonder what’s in these drugs to make us feel so sick?

Also, since I’m just borderline, I don’t have to test anything yet…..do
you guys mean you have to stick that needle in your finger several times a
day? That must be awful after awhile. How often do you have to do it?? Does

{Disarmed} Re: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Testing

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

That is strange…but he must have his reasons for it, LOL
I test more than I should but got to get in the habit of keeping a log book.
I am soooo bad at it!!! LOL
Yes you should know what your A1c is. Mine is a 7.3 right now…a tad bit
high.

My doctor has me testing twice a day, but not at all after meals. On Mon.,
Wed., and Friday I test fasting and before dinner. On Tues., Thurs., and Sat
I test before lunch and before bed. No testing on Sunday.

It seems kind of weird that he doesn’t want me to test after any meals. I
don’t want to do extra testing because at each appointment he takes my meter

Regarding your question of ‘if the fruits you bought were ok’
I purchased a book found at most any bookstore, even a Walmart is likely to
carry it, and of course Amazon if you’re someone that prefers purchasing
online. The cost was very low in my opinion for what it’s done to help me, U
S $7.99.

Thinking about Byetta

Friday, April 13th, 2007

I have been treating for diabetes since 8/06. Since Feb 07 have been
taking glyburide along with the metformin I have been taking since
diagnosis. 1000 mg metformin 2 x a day and 1.25 glyburide 2 x a day.
Since starting glyburide, I have gained about 9 pounds, which I don’t
need. I need to lose about 50 pounds, which I believe would make me
healthier. I also have hypertension, GERD and take crestor for
cholesterol. My bg is pretty well-controlled with my current meds but
I’m worried about the weight gain. I can’t afford to continue to gain
2 pounds a month. What do you all think about taking Byetta for
weight loss even though I’m doing fine control-wise now.

Diabetes Drug May Help Obese People Eat Less

Friday, April 13th, 2007

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Obese subjects ate nearly 1,000
Fewer calories per day when they injected pramlintide, a
Drug approved for the treatment of insulin-dependent
Diabetes, before every meal, a new study shows.

The subjects were also less likely to binge eat and ate
Less when faced with "fast-food challenges" of deep-dish
Pizza, sugary sodas and ice cream.

Pramlintide is a synthetic version of the human hormone
Amylin, which is secreted by the pancreas along with
Insulin after meals. Amylin is referred to as a "satiety"
Hormone, meaning it signals a feeling of fullness to let
The body know it is time to stop eating.

The contents of the calorie king book is also on the web page with a search

Two other good sites are:

When comparing carb content always make sure it is for the same amount by
weight or other unit of measure or it is meaningless. For most foods the
calorie king site allows one to choose the unit of measure to accomplish
this.

This disease we all live with sometimes it takes a lot of adjusting, finding
the right meds that work. Sometimes they just stop working and we got to
find something new. Well, it’s been great talking with ya. It is 3:30 here
in Indiana and I am going to bed…I had to much iced tea and apparently way
to much caffeine. See ya later!

No, that one hasn’t been released yet. I’m on the 10mcg Byetta along with
metformin and glyburide. Been on the spit since March and doing very well
with it. Don’t think I’d want to try to long acting version. Only had
minimal nausea with Byetta, nothing like when I started metformin, but since
