Flying with Byetta

Can anyone tell me what we need to do to comply with Fed regs if
we’re
taking an airline flight?

Thanks,
Brian

As long as you’re only going on a domestic flight, make sure your pen is in
a 1 quart zip-loc bag with the rest of your gel/liquids and your pen
needles. You should make sure you bring the Rx label from your Byetta box
or better yet, travel with the pen in the box so that the tray helps to
avoid breakage. If traveling on an international flight, call your airline
to see what you must do.

I travel frequently for business and although Byetta can handle room temps
up to 77 degrees, I still travel with mine in a small cooler with a gel pack
and tell the TSA agents that I’m traveling with refrigerated medication.
I’ve never had a problem while flying in the U.S. with it.

    I fly often for work.

I carry my byetta and needles in a small cosmetic bag in my purse. When I’m
flying out (from Charlotte) I just put it in one of the bins to be x-rayed
and they don’t even look twice at it. When I’m flying home, usually from
smaller town I often have to tell them what it is but it has never been an
    issue.

Before I retired, I used to do allot of domestic and international
air travel. As with any medication, make sure you have all
medications in the original package with the Rx label. Also, new Rx
script from your doctor for each medication will also help. This is
especially helpful if you happen to loose any of your medication or
have it taken during a screening check as I did on one trip.

Brian - I recently flew with Byetta. I carried it in a very small cooler
bag with gel packs and kept it in the original box that had the prescription
label on it. Be sure your name on the prescription label is the same as the
identification you are using. The main thing is to be sure to declare it
and have it scanned. In that same very small cooler bag I put my lancets
and needles. I didn’t have any problems at all.

Thanks, Nita. I just hope there will be a small fridge in my motel
    room, since
it will probably be hot in east central Illinois at this point !!

Brian - call the hotel now and tell them you are diabetic and you need a
fridge to keep your medican in. By law, they are required to provide you a
small portable fridge in your room. Because the temps in those can vary so
much, you may want to consider bringing an instant read thermometer to check
    it.

Brian, call ahead to your hotel as most will have one available for
    customers traveling with medications.
