Painless shots and the longer needle theory .

Hi All :) I haven’t been keeping up with the emails because we are packing and
have been moving to TN for the last two years and we are going for a
trip up this Saturday.

I am just turning 60 and have been giving myself injections of some
sort since about the age of 10. My asthma injections went into the
thigh and the arm…the B-12 into the rump and the Novlin into the
stomach.

For Less Painful Injections:
I was trained by the nurses to just pull the skin very taut were the
shots were about to go with one hand and then inject with the other.
Once in awhile when in a hurry…I just jab the needle in, and then I
wished I hadn’t been so lazy and just did the old routine of pulling

the skin tight and then jabbing. Of course…being very
very "FLUFFY" there is no way I can do that when giving myself by B-
12 in the behind.
If you inject into the thigh you can tap or slap the injection sight
a few times then plunge. It seems to take the sting out of the shot.
I still prefer to pull tautly !!!

My Doctor told me years ago to use the longer needles since I have
a few extra layers of "Fluffiness" to go through !!
BUT the worst needle I have been using is on my Hubby. It is a
three inch needle that goes into his rump. I could probably use them
as nails. I felt sorry for him until I was really angry with him the
other day. Somehow, it was a joy to give him that injection at that
time. I felt no pain at all!! ]:) hehehe!

Warm Smiles and Happy Huggzzz

Kathryna, it sounds like your husband’s needles are probably for hormone
replacement therapy (low testosterone). When my doc Rx’d testosterone for
me about a month ago, he wanted me to go the shot route, too, but after
seeing that the needle used looked like it could bring down a bull elephant,
I opted for the transdermal patches. And until then, I thought my Byetta
pen needles where big! :-) There’s definitely a difference in whether the
medication needs to be delivered into the muscle tissue or into fat. As for
the pinching, I was told that us fat people don’t need to pinch so much
since the reason for that is to prevent the meds from going into muscle
where they’ll be absorbed faster. It’s mainly something skinny folk need to
do and why BD had come up with the Ultra-Fine III Mini pen needle.

IS this how you answer these things?

    Hi Michael,
Yes, the Transderma Patches were first tried, but when we learned
they were going to be about $300 a month out of our own pocket we
opted for the lovely long cheap spikes! lol
I re-read my letter and I know I didn’t say to pinch skin.
You PULL at one end of the skin area to make it taut or tight and
that cuts down alot on the pain. You know…like if you were pulling
on a balloon. Hence…"Us Fluffies" can be stretched somewhat.. :) Good Day,
    Kathryna
