byetta and weight lost

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

I am on the 5 pen for 4 months now. Have not lost any weight, but
numbers are good. I know some lose and some don’t. Does anyone know if
it is possible to lose weight after being on the same dosage pen for
several months. I know it may take the 10 pen to drop pounds, but don’t
think I am ready for more side effects. Also does eating early or later
after injection help with appetite.

some experts are calling another Vioxx-like example of the government
failing to protect the public from an unsafe drug.

Something I’m not clear on about Byetta

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

Here is something I’m not clear on.

I have pens that were purchased before the announcement that they
could be kept at room temperature. Does that mean they always could be
kept at room temperature, or they’ve developed a new Byetta that can
stand it and would be sold after that date?

Thanks!

Sick all night/Byetta questions

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

I have a question:
I injected my Byetta 10, ate a normal dinner, and then i think i ate a bit too
much ‘low carb’ choc. ice cream…..
Around 2 am I awoke and have been in the bathroom with diahreah every few mins
since then :( I’m wiped out, so to speak!
Is this b/c of the splenda-sweetened ice cream (too much of)? I’ve never done
this before nor had this reaction, but I dont feel nauseaus so I dont think it’s
anything bad or a bug. Kinda more like I did something I shouldnt have, and I
WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, I PROMISE! :) Does this make sense?
Also, I dont eat fried foods at all, but when I first got on Byetta, I did eat
a meal of fried food and was very sick, much worse than last night… is that
b/c Byetta & fried foods (ice cream, etc) do not mix??
These are things the doc and the pharmacist dont tell you, nor do the Byetta
people!

LOWS……………

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

i have been taking my byetta only once a day and so far it is working well. i
still have the appetite suppressant all day, too. only last night my bs crashed
to 36 and boy was i scared!!! i took so much sugar that then it went up to
192!!!!! well, i will be more careful and not wait so long to eat after my shot.
this is the first time i waited the hour after the shot to eat. i usually only
wait about 15 mins, to 1/2 an hour. now i am kinda scared that it may happen
again. also, i have come to believe that the side-effects of byetta are as
varied as the people that take it, and any side-effect is possible, whether they
say so or not………what has been others’ experiences with lows and eating
habits?…….baz

Hand Swelling, Weight Gain, and Scalp Pimples

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Hi Everyone,
I am new to this group and have been reading all of the interesting
and very helpfull Byetta info. I hope this will help someone as well.
I am on Byetta 10 in the AM and PM !
My hands haven’t been the same since I started with the 5. They got
worse as I progressed to the 10. My fingers are swollen and feel
stiff.
Finally, my doctor said to just get off of it. I think she was just
exasperated with what to do with me. She had tried me on Similyn
shots first because she said it was better then Byetta butI had a
breating reaction to it.
Anyway…I stopped the Byetta AM injection and finally my Lasix
water pill worked properly. I noticed when I take the shot my fluid
pills hardly have any effet on me.
I have had similar problems when on AVANDAMET plus large weight gain.

loss of appetite

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

Has anyone else had almost a TOTAL loss of appetite since being on the Byetta?
I take the 10 twice a day and, after breakfast, basically have NO desire to eat
the rest of the day!! I pretty much have to force whatever little bit I can get
down and that is a struggle. I know it sounds good in a way but not on the
other hand. I guess it’s OK, though, as I haven’t registered a really low low
yet.

High Fiber And Magnesium May Cut Diabetes Risk

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - High levels of cereal fiber and magnesium are
associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, according to a
report in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

The findings stem from an analysis performed by Dr. Matthias B. Schulze and
colleagues from the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbruecke,
Nuthetal. The study involved over 25,000 adults, between 35 and 65 years of
age, who were followed from 1994 to 2005 for diabetes. A food-frequency
questionnaire was used to assess the participants for the amounts of dietary
fiber and magnesium.

During follow-up, 844 subjects developed type 2 diabetes, the report
indicates. Compared with the subjects with the lowest cereal fiber intake,
those with the highest intake had a 28-percent reduction in diabetes risk.

DNA Mutation Raises Heart Disease Risk In Whites

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A hunt for genes has found that up to three quarters
of people of European descent have DNA that raises their risk for heart
disease — and these genes are close to a stretch of DNA linked to diabetes.

The findings, made by two independent groups of researchers, may help
explain why so many people have heart disease even if they do not have clear
risk factors such as smoking, high cholesterol or high blood pressure.

And they could lead to a test to predict the risk of heart disease, the
biggest cause of death across the globe.

"I think this is a stunner," Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National
Human Genome Research Institute, told reporters.

"It seems like this one place carries all of that weight for two very common
