Sick all night/Byetta questions
I have a question:
I injected my Byetta 10, ate a normal dinner, and then i think i ate a bit too
much ‘low carb’ choc. ice cream…..
Around 2 am I awoke and have been in the bathroom with diahreah every few mins
since then
I’m wiped out, so to speak!
Is this b/c of the splenda-sweetened ice cream (too much of)? I’ve never done
this before nor had this reaction, but I dont feel nauseaus so I dont think it’s
anything bad or a bug. Kinda more like I did something I shouldnt have, and I
WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, I PROMISE!
Does this make sense?
Also, I dont eat fried foods at all, but when I first got on Byetta, I did eat
a meal of fried food and was very sick, much worse than last night… is that
b/c Byetta & fried foods (ice cream, etc) do not mix??
These are things the doc and the pharmacist dont tell you, nor do the Byetta
people!
I guess you learn the hard way.
Also, I am surprised there is someone here who takes Byetta but NOT with
Metformin. I thought it HAD to be given together… that’s what my insurance
said anyway, and my doc.
I’ve been on the 10 for a few weeks now, but I still feel nauseous fairly
often… I’m thinking of going back to the 5. Anyone else have this problem,
where they just can’t seem to tolerate the 10?
My NP in my Endocrin.’s office said it’s ok if you’ve eaten within a few hrs
of taking Byetta with meal, but NOT to inject Byetta within 5 hrs of the last
injection. Is that what everyone else has heard?
Thanks for any replies ….

*If Splenda is the only sweetener used, that should not have caused
diarrhea. If malitrose (sp?) is an ingredient, then it would most certainly
be a possibility. Many SF chocolate desserts have malitrose which is why I
tend to go with the vanilla.*

*Most insurances want you to be on both. My doctor put me on both but we
discontinued the Metformin for two reasons (primarily diarrhea) and she told
the insurance that I was not able to tolerate it.*

tina, the literature says wait at least 6 hours between shots. also a very many
of sugar-free things have sorbitol or other chemicals that have a laxative
effect on people. that may be what happened to you. i don’t think it was the
byetta. i don’t know about byetta and fried foods, however….baz

Fried foods are off my menu because they gave me problems with the
Byetta but it was not a bad thing to give them up. I do find that
there are some foods I cannot eat and I also got sick if I overate so
had to cut my portion control.
