Hand Swelling, Weight Gain, and Scalp Pimples
Hi Everyone,
I am new to this group and have been reading all of the interesting
and very helpfull Byetta info. I hope this will help someone as well.
I am on Byetta 10 in the AM and PM !
My hands haven’t been the same since I started with the 5. They got
worse as I progressed to the 10. My fingers are swollen and feel
stiff.
Finally, my doctor said to just get off of it. I think she was just
exasperated with what to do with me. She had tried me on Similyn
shots first because she said it was better then Byetta butI had a
breating reaction to it.
Anyway…I stopped the Byetta AM injection and finally my Lasix
water pill worked properly. I noticed when I take the shot my fluid
pills hardly have any effet on me.
I have had similar problems when on AVANDAMET plus large weight gain.
When on PRANDIN my hands hurt me for a whole year with horrid
swelling. I never connected the problem with that pill until I had
become so depressed after countless nights of no sleeping and soaking
my hands in cold water trying to get the swelling down. I had
forgotten to take any PRANDIN for a few days and I noticed my hands
weren’t as bad. The Endo said there is no info on that pill causing
any problem like that. I said I didn’t care what the book said…I
know what it does to me.
Now on the Byetta I am having a similar reaction. PLUS weight gain
and Scalp pimples as well. The ENDO said there is NO reason for my
hands to swell with this med !!!
I have had Scalp pimples most of my adult life and have to go on an
Antibiotic every-so-often to calm the out-break down. BUT with the
Byetta I have had the worst outbreak so far.
My Endo said to just get off the Byetta. She did not say what to do
or to even come in. She had supplied the first two months of Byetta
and I finally sent to CareMark for my three month supply. It is due
to arrive in a few days and now since the Endo said to just get off
of it…I can wash that $40 right down the drain. I am so very upset
with this Byetta experience after counting on it.
Oh..I am also on Noviln N injections. 100 in the PM and 60 in the AM.

My hands were swelling, too, along with the itching. My fingers felt
like sausages and hurt like bruises. The bottom of my feet were
swollen and itching like crazy. My toes were all swelled up and if
you touched them they set of an itching that was out of this world!
I was taking Benedryl like candy and sleepy all the time. MISERABLE!
No, I don’t think it’s going to "pass". I was slathering on Lanacane
at night just to sleep. And rubbing "itch on" all day one.
I have been off Byetta for a week and I am at least 70% over the
symptoms I’ve been having for two months. I am positive it is the
Byetta. Supposed to see doctor today but they called and rescheduled
for Wednesday (he was out sick! LOL).

Scalp problems…have you been tested for Staph??? Foliculitis?
I am on daily antibiotic for the past 20 years for extreme
sensitivity to staph due to similar symptoms.
