the diabetes nurse set it up for me, but didn'
t actually tell or show me how to inject. just said to watch the video. i
called the hot-line and the guy talked me through the first shot. i found the
instruction sheet a bit confusing, had to draw arrows on it for each step so now
that is better............baz

I was wondering, did any of you get instruction from your doctors on how to
use it or rather inject yourself? Mine didn't bother and he is an
endocrinologist. I looked at the video that came with the starter kit then
I called the 800 # and they helped me. Just sometimes I get distracted and
make a mistake so it bleeds. Today was a whopper. It went up into the pen
itself and they said that I had to get a new pen(duh!) and they would call
the pharmacy and give them a voucher for me.

<< I was wondering, did any of you get instruction from your doctors on

My doctor had me insert a needle in my abdomen to be sure I knew how to do
it and was not afraid to do it. I have never been afraid of needles and I
had not problems doing that. She told me to be sure I used the video to set
up my pen. Because my numbers were not way out of control and I was doing
the right things with nutrition and exercise, she did not feel I needed to
see a dietician or an endocrinologist. I would have insisted for a referral
if it was not for the fact that she is such an excellent internal medicine
doctor and asks a lot of questions and is adamant about getting lab work
done and monitoring it. In fact, she always sends me a copy of my lab
results when she gets them. If and when my numbers begin to be a problem
<!--more-->
and we cannot work it out together, I will then insist on an endocrinology
consult.

I am very lucky. My doctor sets up a class for people who have never
used Byetta. There were two people involved in my training. One was
a lady who had been on Byetta a while and had gone through the nausea
and other things that come up. She shared her experiences and gave us
all a pep talk that helped a lot. Then the nurse taught us how to
use Byetta and even had us do a dry run with the needle.

I have to tell you that both were extremely helpful and made it a lot easier!
