Insulin glargine safe for pregnant diabetics

The use of insulin glargine, a man-made type of insulin, for diabetes
during pregnancy does not increase the risk of complications for the
developing baby, findings from a pilot study indicate.

In experimental studies, man-made insulin has been shown to have
growth-promoting effects. Concerns have therefore been raised that use
of insulin glargine during pregnancy could cause excessive fetal growth
and other problems. A recent review actually recommended against the use
of the agent during pregnancy, but called for further studies to
investigate its safety.

SWEET, BUT POISON - A MUST READ

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick.

She had stomach spasms and she was having a hard time getting around.

Walking was a major chore.

It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain.

By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies and was on
24 various prescription medications.

The doctors could not determine what was wrong with her.

She was in so much pain, and so sick.she just knew she was dying.

Marathon

Gary Hall Jr. has won swimming gold medals in the past three Olympics.

Adam Morrison is averaging 30 minutes a game as an NBA rookie.

Jason Johnson won 10 games for the Orioles in 2003.

All have Type 1 diabetes, but none confronted the logistical issues that
Andy Gell must overcome today at the 111th Boston Marathon.

Less than a year after he was diagnosed with the disease, the Baltimore City
schoolteacher will attempt to cover 26.2 miles in less than 2 hours, 50
minutes.

Not Generic Yet

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

I think on this list, someone claimed there was a generic version mentioned
on the website. I think that person was confused. Byetta is still on
patent and will be for many more years to come.

Every drug has two names Unfortunately it is confusing because there is a
brand name and it has a generic name. Just like classification of plants
and animals, the generic name has something to do with its classification.
When it does go generic down the road(definitely after the turn of the
decade) then it will be cheaper but hopefully by then we will have better
drugs just as they are better than the choices in 1921.

question re: delivery

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Whenever any of you have had your Byetta delivered from a mail order pharmacy,
did you have to be home when it arrived or did they just leave it? Mine’s
coming tomorrow but I won’t be home.

Thanks!

Glycemic load" of diet has no effect on weight loss

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - When it comes to losing weight, the number
of calories you eat, rather than the type of carbohydrates, may be what
matters most, according to a new study.

The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition,
suggest that diets low in "glycemic load" are no better at taking the
pounds off than more traditional — and more carbohydrate-friendly –
approaches to calorie-cutting.

The concept of glycemic load is based on the fact that different
carbohydrates have different effects on blood sugar. White bread and
potatoes, for example, have a high glycemic index, which means they tend

Introduction-Newbie

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

My name is Denene and I am from Oklahoma. I am a new diabetic I was
diagnosised last Tuesday. I am getting ready to start taking Byetta. I
haven’t started yet we are having trouble getting it approved for me to
take it by the insurance. What a royal pain in the rear end. Anyways. I
am hoping in the next few days and by the weekend I will be starting
it. It would be nice to have the weekend to start it when I am home all
weekend and can start using the Byetta Pen.
I would like to know the Pro’s and con’s you have found to
taking Byetta! I look forward to your responses and meeting everyone.
I am married by the way and Don is a LPN. I have a medical
alert service dog ‘lady’ who alerts me to my sugars being to low or to
high so I can take the proper action and if I am to low and don’t
respond to her she will get help for me.
My mother is a type 2 diabetic on insulin and my granddad was on
insulin as well type 2 and died due to complications of diabetes. I am

Timing the shots

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

It can be hard getting in my oral meds and the Byetta. I always eat
within 15 minutes of taking the shot. I have a schedule I try really
hard to stick to:

8am - Byetta and breakfast

10 - Oral Meds and snack

12pm - Lunch

3 - Snack

4 - Exercise (Curves for me 3 days a week, treadmill the others)

6 - Byetta and dinner
