Anyone read or heard of the book Death to Diabetes, by DeWayne McCulley? Sounds
too good to be true. Lanie

I’d never heard of this book, but I just read the reviews on
Amazon.com. It sounds very fascinating, but I’m a bit leery of his
words "cure" and "reverse" diabetes. I believe it is possible to have
it in remission, like cancer, but you still need to watch your habits.
If you order the book, let us know what you think.

bg’s well over 1100? i question that. and then only taking 30 units of
insulin? my bg’s were no where near that when i was dx’d and i was put on
more than 30 units of insulin daily back then.

Actually, I heard him speak on the radio today. He is giving a talk in my
area on Thurs. I will attempt to attend. He professes to have originally
been diagnosed with bg’s well over 1100, and began taking 30 units of
insulin. Now claims to be off all meds completely. I’m with you, though;
never cured, only controlled. Lanie

That is a bunch of hooey. If his blood sugar was 1100 he’d be at the very
least in a coma. If this is what he is telling people…he is a charlatan.
A Bamboozler.

His page is at:
Amag. article:
After the hype is removed, it looks very similar to the dr. bernstein
approach of matching available insulin to carb intake using diet and
exercise. One knows when they are matched by glucose meter results meeting
post meal goals as low as possible to normal ranges.
Control of symptoms and "reversing" into near normal ranges of the usual
diabetic number measures is still not a cure. It is admirable nonetheless
and is what "diet and exercise alone" really means but is rarely taught to
new diabetics.
For byetta users it is what will give max results and max potential for
reversing beta cell destruction.

Well, i have since read a review of the book, and it is not ll00 but over
1300. And it says he overcame a diabetic coma. I still am just leery about
it. But i do apologize for my previous comments. He is probably not a
bamboozler. He is on the panel of experts for the Diabetes Monitor, for
whatever that is worth.

1100 is not unheard of, but is really, really bad. If 30 units did it
for him, that means that 1 unit would drop him 30 points. I know a
kid for whom 1 unit drops him 60 points. Me, 1 unit drops me only 5
points.
I am not defending the guy or his book, since I have not look into
either.

Thanks for the link. In reading what this gentleman has done, it is no
different than what a number of other folks have said–eliminate this, eat more
of that and you will get "better".
A lot of the reading I have done suggests eliminating a lot of the processed
foods, eating more fruit & vegetables, drinking more water, exercising, etc so
nothing new here.
If we thought about it, I would bet a number of folks could write books on how
they "cured" diabetes and a number of other things based on what worked for
them.
Each of us is unique so if what that guy did worked for him, more power to
him. Just doesn’t mean it would work for me, except to lighten my wallet by
$25, the cost of his book.
