Timing the shots
It can be hard getting in my oral meds and the Byetta. I always eat
within 15 minutes of taking the shot. I have a schedule I try really
hard to stick to:
8am - Byetta and breakfast
10 - Oral Meds and snack
12pm - Lunch
3 - Snack
4 - Exercise (Curves for me 3 days a week, treadmill the others)
6 - Byetta and dinner
9 - Snack and oral meds
12am - Bed (glass of milk or banana)
If we go out dinner it’s usually late…8-ish, so I flip the routine
and take the oral med’s at 6 and then do the Byetta before dinner. I
do my injection in the car before I go in the resturant.
I had to sit down and work this all out on paper to get it straight
in my head…but now it’s second nature. Habit.
Just keep working on it.

Just curious what oral meds are you taking? I am on 13 different
orals, two inhaled, and one injection (not all for diabetes, of
course). I was concerned about the Byetta having an effect on my
oral meds but my doctor said the only one I need to be concerned
about is omeprazole (for GERD) that I have to take at least 30
minutes before food. I take that when I first wake up and then do
my Byetta shot and other oral meds when I get out of the shower.
By the time I’m dressed for work, I’m ready for breakfast before
running out the door. So far I’ve had no problems taking my
metformin and glyburide at the same time as my injection.

I haven’t had any problems with the oral meds and the Byetta…but I
am chicken to take them too close together. I had a great fear of the
nausea factor when I started Byetta…although luckily that hasn’t
happened so far.
I have Diabetes and Crohn’s Disease, so take 11 meds total. Actos,
Byetta and Metf for the D and a buffet of pills for CD. I must really
be blessed, because so far all my med’s have been wonder drugs for me.
The only real side effect I can point to is fatigue. And a little
tired of swallowing pills.

OzarkSampler–
Thanks for sharing your schedule. But I thought we were supposed
to take
both the Byetta and the oral meds at or just before mealtime.
Maybe I
heard my doctor incorrectly, or forgot. Were you instructed to
take the
oral meds with snacks?
Thanks,
Brian

Doctor said to take the Byetta before breakfast. Shot, then eat 15
minutes later. Then take my orals med’s with milk or food several
hours later…to avoid upchucking them. So far, so good.

Ozark—
Thanks for your response about timing. I take my Byetta just as
I’m about
to eat, though I could take it up to an hour beforehand, I right.
But some-
times I forget and take it in the middle of the meal, or even
after.
At the moment, I take my other meds (incl glipizide and metformin)
just
before or after the meal. I don’t have any problem with keeping
them
down. But I’m wondering, from the standpoint of having the PILLS
work
best with the Byetta, what’s the best time for them?? Mealtime??
Snacktime?? (though I don’t always have or need a snack) Other??
Many thanks,
Brian Cooper
