Dear Mr. & Mrs. Quick,

Quacks

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

This person who claims to have beaten it does sound like a quack if he
thinks he does not need his meds or anything else to be <6.0 A1C. My
diabetes educator is now down to a health weight for _her_ and she always
repeats that every diabetic is different. She still has to take medication.
She still tests her sugar. Not every diabetic realizes they have it as we
all know. I didn’t know but my pcp was suspicious.

Now that you have said that the author was in a diabetic coma when he was
diagnosed then It makes sense, however it cannot be beaten, we have to be
vigilant even when we are at the target weight bg, bp, cholesterol, etc.
This is not a game.

However every serious chronic illness has its nutters claiming to have
cures. Dozens have insane ideas about curing Alzheimer’s Disease and of
course there are conspiracy buffs, my favorite nutters.

Please send me your spiral, it will make it easier as it seems my
medications are always changing. This summer I get my first bone density
scan, (age 50+) and with my luck I will need Boniva or that other one. I
didn’t spend much money on the sporty wrist band and I didn’t want the chain
because I had to wear a caregiver bracelet when mom had Alzheimer’s Disease.
I was her primary caregiver for 11 years. If anything happened to me I
wanted the police to check up on her and get a hold of someone who I trusted
to care for mom while I would be recovering. Now it is all over, mom has
been called home and so I wanted something different. I am still in my
first year of mourning her.

Thanks,

Sounds like the doctor just thinks that you don’t have diabetes if you
follow his plan, but everyone has a different body and respond differently
to different things. Vital signs change throughout the day. But I am not
running out to buy the high tech does everything for me blood pressure cuff
just as I am not going to run out and buy his book or read it in the
library. I trust my health care team which may or may not include the
pharmacist.

Keeping the Medicine list available in case of emergency

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

I just wondered, do any of you leave a looseleaf with the names of your
doctors, drugs and diabetes diagnosis handy in case of emergency? I was
thinking that if I fell in the bathroom, it would be handy for them to know
my medical history.

I also wear the bracelet because if anything happens in the street I would
rather not be mistaken for drunk and disorderly or just passed out since
either extreme can do that. I have the sporty looking one. Not a chain, it
is a polyester one with blue and black background the information is on a
silver plate with the cadeusus on it and on the band. I was advised by a
friend to wear it. I live in a big city wouldn’t want to get caught drunk
and disorderly if it is only high glucose.

I am surprised at how high some of the numbers are running. I guess I
should feel grateful that my numbers have never been above 232 and that was
after a glass of wine. Strangely enough the wine was worse than the juice .
My endocrinologist had said he thought the juice would have had the most
sugar.

sugar free chocolate syrup

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Yummy! I live in nyc, wal mart is not here and so I have to peruse other
supermarkets to see if they stock it. I have so much seltzer in my fridge
that I am bored with it. I bought some diet coke and entered their codes.
However I can put some of that syrup in my seltzer I will feel so non
punished(by this disease) that it will be a nirvana for me.

Sugar-Free Chocolate Syrup at Wal-mart

Monday, November 20th, 2006

When I was in Wal-mart today I found Sugar-Free (made with Splenda)
chocolate syrup (similar to Hershey’s and right beside it). It tastes like
any other chocolate syrup and is nice to have on hand for a treat now and
again.

(Please do not respond with how bad sugar-free products are and how sugar
alcohols and aspartame, and Splenda are going to kill you, etc. I know that
for me, as a diabetic, sugar-substitutes, help me keep my BG down. Because
good sugar-free products are not always easy to find - especially those made
with Splenda, I will continue to post them to the group. I certainly don’t
advocate sitting down and eating a whole bottle of SF chocolate syrup, but a
teaspoon or two on something now or then is better for* me* than the ‘real’
thing.)
