		<description>Hi Nell,

The biggest help is WRITE EVERYTHING THAT GOES IN YOUR MOUTH DOWN. What has
helped me is doing that. I test in the AM before I eat. Two hours after I eat,
I test again. if I am within 50 of my starting range, I am good. If not, then
I look at what I ate and adjust accordingly.

Take the food journal with you when you visit your Dr. This way, you can both
look it over and you will have concrete evidence to show about the BS concerns.
Sometimes, those docs need to see it in writing.

The Byetta WILL help. Just stick with it and don't get too down. I am 42 and
yes, it does get frustrating, especially when you get those rises that there is
no explaination for.

&lt;!--more--&gt;
Keep Strong.

I am 41 with Type 2. I've been on the 5mcg of Byetta for a month. I
also take Avandement 4/1000 twice a day. I take Levoxyl(they found
nodules on my thyroid-I run normal low). They &#34;think&#34; I have
PCOS(never confirmed ANY cysts and had 3 kids naturally) I can pin
point EXACTLY when I put on 40lbs in 6 weeks 20 some years ago-told I
was just fat and needed to watch what I eat. My Dad had a stroke, I
was working 12 hour days in a salon and never had time to eat-go
figure. I now weigh 233. Life sucks on that end. NOTHING I do helps
to get weight off. I am fairly active-I am never home and always
running kids-soccer I am always goalie, lol So the Dr started me with
the Byetta to help..

I started the Byetta 10mcg Friday. I am at a loss here. On the
5mcg, BS stayed pretty even-120's-150's. My cycle was due this
week-delayed for 4 days. My numbers climbed as they usually do for
that time of the month. They've been running around 190-229 since
Thursday. Even just eating a salad-romaine lettuce, 1 hard boiled egg
and vinegar raised my BS to 229. I wonder if the Avandament isn't
working at all. I've had absolutely no reactions at all to the
Byetta. No sickness. I've always had a small appetite. I usually have
a 4 oz container of non-fat sugar free yogurt(10 carbs) at 5:20 am
before I go to work-then a protein bar at 7:30 am with no more than 14
carbs in it. Yet I run high still around 10:30am. It makes NO sense
why numbers still are high. I avoid all processed foods, nothing with
white flour, sugar in them. I eat no potatoes, pastas, or rice-they
all make my sugars rise. I had Steel Oats today-1/4 cup-1 splenda-two
hours post BS was 227. I quit.

Any reasons why I am not getting numbers better even adding the
Byetta? I can't get in with the endo until the end of June-I have NO
food plan to help me eat around the Byetta injections until then
either. Is the Avandament not working? What do I do now-how long do I
wait for this Byetta to kick in. I am so in the dark and have no anwers.

Thanks for getting this far.

		<description>marge,

That is what i was thinking too. 24 grams would throw me for a loop all
day. One thing i do because i am so grumpy in the mornings and don't want
to eat. On sunday evenings, I plan my breakfast's out for the week.
Usually i have an &#34;Egg&#34; muffin. What i do is i crack 4 to 6 eggs in a bowl.
( if fat is a concern, you can take out a couple of the yolks--but remember,
this recipe is for the whole week). Then i fry some bacon really crisp or
some sausage or ham, sometimes all 3. After they are cooked, i crumble them
up into the eggs, add a bit of cheese and some green pepper if i feel like
chopping it, and mix that all up really good. then i pour the mixture into
a greased muffin tin. I use the the paper cup liners. Then put that in the
oven at 350 degree's until the eggs are cooked through and the cheese is
melted. When they have cooled a bit, take them out and place each one in a
zip loc bag (i use the small freezer bags), then put them in the freezer.
&lt;!--more--&gt;
In the morning, just take one out, unzip the bag and place it in the
microwave for a minute or so until it's as hot as you want. It's like a to
go omelet, and it has maybe 5 carbs. If that. Depends on what veggies you
use. If i am not going to have that, i still cook the bacon or sausage that
i am going to have so that i don't have to do that in the mornings. But you
really need to eat more protein at breakfast and fewer carbs i think. Also,
it sounds like maybe your pen is a dud. Did you do the pen setup when you
first got it? Did you see the byetta squirt out? Are you re using the same
needle? Just trying to think of some reasons you are not seeing better
numbers. If you weren't comfortable calling your endo and talking to them,
you could call the byetta hot line. They are good about helping with
problems. I hope this helped a little.

Hello Nell, Welcome to our group! One thing I would check is that the
Byetta pen has been primed correctly and that it hasn't been
de-activated by being kept at the wrong temp say before you even got it.

Could you try a new pen?

As for your morning meals ,we are all different but even with the Byetta
and 2 other meds I could not get away with eating 24 carb gms. in the
morning.

Many diabetics have a much harder time eating carbs in the morning as we
experience a strong dawn effect.

Could you try low carb at that time as an experiment? Say some scrambled
eggs then later a low carb shake.
