meds

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Hi Everyone, My name is Laura and I am new to this site.
I’ve been hearing so many good things about Byetta. Right
now I’m on medformin 500 mg and take only 1 pill a day. My
readings are still high. For instance my morning before
eating or drinking anything is uusally 148. I plan on asking
my doctor about my getting on Byetta. I also hear that it
helps one to loose weight is this true? I am overweight and
feel if I loose it would help with the diabetes too!

Thanks and have a great evening. Laura

Recalled Supplement Causes Dangerous Drug Interactions

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

The FDA has posted a press release from Cosmos Trading Inc. informing
the public of a voluntary recall of Rhino Max (Rhino V Max), which has
been marketed as a supplement. Rhino Max contains aminotadalafil, which
is chemically similar to tadalafil, the active ingredient in the
prescription drug, Cialis. Tadalafil is used to treat erectile
dysfunction in men.

Rhino Max and Rhino V Max can pose a dangerous health risk to people who
also take prescription drugs which contain nitrates. People with
diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol are
frequently on medications that have nitrates as an active ingredient.

According to the press release, "The recalled Rhino Max (Rhino V Max) is
sold in 5-tablet boxes or 15-tablet boxes. The product label does not
warn consumers with high blood pressure not to ingest the product. Also,

Some doctors balk at inhaled insulin

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Pfizer’s stab at giving diabetics insulin without needles is getting
more praise than prescriptions so far. Exubera, a powdered form inhaled
through a special device, was introduced last year in a targeted launch
to specialists, a debut analysts deemed disappointing. While doctors
applaud Pfizer Inc.’s effort to find a new way to deliver insulin, some
are concerned about the drug’s long-term effects on the lungs, cost and
insurance coverage.

Observers fear Exubera won’t fare much better as Pfizer expands the
sales effort to primary care doctors.

"I think Pfizer will wish they had never gotten into this. I doubt
they’ll regain their investment," said Dr. John Buse, president-elect of

Marge, here’s my story was: Lows and Highs

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Marge,
I will answer that. I am not sure who I have shared my story with. In November
of 2001 I became very sick with what I thought was the flu. I went to the
emergency room the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I was so sick I don’t really
remember Thanksgiving. My family has told me that because I was sick my husband
made a smaller version of the traditional Thanksgiving here instead of us going
to his parents house as we had planned. Like I said I don’t really have any
memory of it.

When I arrived at the ER my breathing was very labored and rapid. I was very
disoriented, They wanted to take a chest x-ray. They told me to stand in front
of the machine and I did. I put my left hand on the machine for balance. The
tech said to put my right hand on the machine. I understood each word but I was
very confused as to how to do it. I literally had NO clue. It was strange. My
husband said I was acting like I was on drugs. They kept taking my blood. They

Lows and Highs

Friday, August 11th, 2006

I had a 71 and felt sick as a dog! Horrible, horrible feeling. Cold
and clammy, felt like the world was shifting and I was going to pass
out. Drank half a coke and felt like a new woman in about 5 minutes.
BS went to 110.

Same thing happened with a high. I felt so sick and so weird and took
my BS and it was 281. Highest I’ve ever seen. I really thought I was
going to die. And I didn’t know what to do about it. I walked on my
treadmill for about 10 minutes, drank some water and then went to bed
for a few hours. I woke up feeling much better, BS at 140. (The high
BS was brought on because I thought I could handle 2 Moon Pies.
Obviously NOT! I know, I know…stupid.)

Told a friend about it and she said she runs in the 350’s and never
feels sick.

Sinus Woes Continue

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

After 4 months my sinus woes continue. I am doing great on this med,
got my best labs in years. IN 3 months AC1 went from 8.5 to 7.0.
Triglycerides from 400 to 162 yada yada and that’s the 5 pen.

But I’m afraid I will not continue because of the awful sinus
congestion and headaches after taking a shot. Has anyone had this and
overcame it?

Bad News

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

Hi all!
I have been on Byetta since the day before Thanksgiving. My A1c is not dropping
enough. The doctor added glyburie and increased my avandia. I am going to go
on a low carb diet. I hope that those things together will help. I am most
concerned about weight gain that tends to go with insulin. Since I am already
on byetta then the shot does not scare me. I did that before when I was
pregnant.

Needle Pain

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

The first dozen shots I took didn’t hurt at all. Now I notice every
3rd shot hurts. I change the needles. Could it be slight differences
in the needles? Or too often in one spot? I almost always do it in the
tummy….maybe 6 inches out from belly button.

I have noticed when I am feeling bloated (er, um…woman stuff…sorry
fellas) that the shots hurt more.

Had to Laugh

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

Someone said they were 45 and falling apart. Me, too!

Since I turned 40:
Empty Nest (only child got married and left home)
Diagnosed with Diabetes
Sleep Apnea
Cluster Headaches
Gained 60 pounds
Dealt with Statin Muscle Weakness (off Statins now for good!)

STATINS: I was on Statin for 3 months. Incredible pain in shoulder
and right arm that continued to increase. Then I started having chest
pains and heart flutters. Doctor said, "Keep taking it. The symptoms
will improve." I changed doctors! New doctor said, "Get off right
now!" It took almost 6 months to get my muscle use back in right arm.

dosing times

Friday, August 4th, 2006

I understand that not eating within an hour of injection can cause a low for
those of us taking a sulfonylurea but what is the reason for not injecting
after a meal should you forget to take a dose?
