I take a few units of Lantus in the evening to cover fasting bgs as I
want to keep them under 100. I also use Humalog, as needed, if I
hypercarb. <g> I’ve had no problems with this, and my A1C runs in the
5.1 - 5.6 range.
Many people take both. The insulin doses tend to get low once the Byetta
starts bringing the numbers down, but some take Novolog with a real
carby meal and some still use Lantus for the long term coverage. The
trials were done with ONLY metformin, but there are a lot of off label
uses happening such as strictly weight loss, for PCOS and probably
others I havent heard of*G*
I was taking 32 u of Lantus twice a day and 10 u of Novolog four times a
day, Metformin twice a day before I started taking Byetta and at that time,
I had a 6.9 HBaC1. I have cut down now to 20 u of Lantus twice a day and 5
u Novolog on an "as needed" basis. I saw my Doctor today and I have lost 8
pounds , my blood pressure is very good, 130/70, and I am going to continue
dropping insulin at the rate of 2 units every two days. My last HBaC was
5.9
After dragging around much of the winter, my energy level is back and I am
feeling very good. I am delighted with Byetta and will see my Doc (an
internist) in six months. I am hoping for a good weight loss over the
summer!
Cheers,

I could be wrong but I don’t think the two are meant to be used together.

I was just wondering. Do they have to kill the lizards to get the saliva or
do they milk them like they do snakes? I hope its the latter. Ev

Don’t worry Ev…. No lizards were killed to save us!
Although the medication was discovered in the lizard "spit", they have been able
to synthesize it in the laboratory.
When my doctor prescribed Byetta, I said "Please! Not another medication!"
But I love this stuff. I am not hungry and the pounds are dropping like flies!
Amphetamines are history!

Neither - *Byetta* is a *synthetic* version of a protein found in the Gila
monster

Byetta is actually a synthetic derivative of Gila Monster saliva so they
aren’t actually using "lizard spit" to make the stuff.
