meds
Hi Everyone, My name is Laura and I am new to this site.
I’ve been hearing so many good things about Byetta. Right
now I’m on medformin 500 mg and take only 1 pill a day. My
readings are still high. For instance my morning before
eating or drinking anything is uusally 148. I plan on asking
my doctor about my getting on Byetta. I also hear that it
helps one to loose weight is this true? I am overweight and
feel if I loose it would help with the diabetes too!
Thanks and have a great evening. Laura

That is 8.,2 mmol/L on my scale, but although a tad high for a fasting BG,
it’s not that bad. I was just diagnosed a month ago, but I was immediately
placed on Metformin 500 mg twice a day…and taken with food. I was also
placed on Gluconorm 1mg, taken approximately 15 to 30 minutes before each meal.
Test your BG about 10 times a day, or at least one fasting BG in the morning,
one before and after (one hour) every meal, and one at night before you go to
bed. It is also a good idea every once in a while to test your BG say at 2 AM
just to make sure you are not bordering on hypoglycemia at that time in the
morning.
Good luck Laura and keep us posted.

I started Byetta February 2nd. As of yesterday, I’ve lost 13 lbs and I feel
like a million bucks. My A1C is 6.1. Doc said that was about perfect. He
kept me on the 5mcg for the time being. I also take Metformin.
I have more energy than I’ve had in years. I really haven’t tried to lose
weight. I do find I am eating more carbs. I could barely tolerate any carbs
before Byetta. I’ve pretty much lost my taste for meat. I guess overall I’m
eating healthier. I haven’t had any nausea. But my energy is what amazes me.
When I was diagnosed in 2003 I could barely put one foot in front of the
other. This has been a great drug for me.

Just for information and not as a recommendation:
For seven days before I go in for a checkup at the diabetes clinic I
have to check my blood sugar four times a day and record it on a form.
Then I have to average out thr reading for the week. It really is an
eye opener and shows me how I am doing as well as helping the doctors
to see how things are going.
During this week, I take a reading before my three meals and again
before bedtime.

Wonderful, Lalon!
I started Byetta a week after you and I have lost some too. I had a
little queasiness in the beginning but no real problems and that
problem is now gone. And, I too, have more energy and do not crave
foods as I once did. I eat lot more vegetables and fruit than I did
before.
