Had to Laugh
Someone said they were 45 and falling apart. Me, too!
Since I turned 40:
Empty Nest (only child got married and left home)
Diagnosed with Diabetes
Sleep Apnea
Cluster Headaches
Gained 60 pounds
Dealt with Statin Muscle Weakness (off Statins now for good!)
STATINS: I was on Statin for 3 months. Incredible pain in shoulder
and right arm that continued to increase. Then I started having chest
pains and heart flutters. Doctor said, "Keep taking it. The symptoms
will improve." I changed doctors! New doctor said, "Get off right
now!" It took almost 6 months to get my muscle use back in right arm.
I couldn’t lift a gallon of milk!!! Slowly the use came back, but it
was still painful for a loooooong time. 2 years later it is mostly
back to normal, but still weak and if I overuse it (swimming, tennis)
it will hurt for a couple days. STATINS ARE NOT FOR ME!
SLEEP APNEA: Diabetes doctor said I might have Sleep Apnea. I went in
for testing and BINGO. I love my CPAP, but I feel like an old lady
hauling all my equipment around with me when we travel. I had to laugh
when I went to a ladies stitching retreat and about 5 of us had to
sleep near an outlet so we could plug in our machines. I think it is
more common than I realized.
DIABETES: Since I have Crohn’s Disease, I get full panel blood work
every three months. My Diabetes was caught very early on and I’ve been
pretty aggressive about treating it with eating right, etc., BS
running 90-140 - a1C 7. About 5 years in my BS readings started to go
up all of a sudden to 250 - 300, a1C 9. Doctor said the pancreas was
getting "tired", so started me on Actos. I gained 30 pounds the first
month…and 30 more the last four months. My BS is in control now, but
my weight is OUT of control.
BYETTA: 3 weeks ago I started on Byetta and joined Curves. Down 17
pounds and appetite is half what it was. I don’t enjoy the shots, but
they aren’t horrible. No nausea, thank you Jesus!!! BS readings now
150-180…going down, but slowly.
Yep, I have started to fall apart in my 40’s…but now I feel like I
have turned that around a little bit and am hopeful I’ll live at least
until my 50’s. LOL
