Yearly Weigh In

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

I had my yearly weigh-in at Curves this morning. I’ve lost a total of 20
pounds and 22 inches! I’ve reduced my body fat % by 3.70 %. Of those 20
pounds I lost, 16 of it was body fat pounds.

I was five pounds short of my goal, but I had five months I was not allowed
to exercise. I feel that when you are over 50 it is great if you just don’t
gain weight - to lose some is definitely a blessing. Five of the pounds
were since I started Byetta 2 1/2 months ago. With my BS under control, I
have more energy and feel like exercising more.

I DID IT!!!

Took my first injection of Byetta tonight before dinner.

It didn’t hurt at all!

Ate a small dinner, just in case, but didn’t feel sick.

I think I’m going to live…

Thank you for your suppport and kindness. It made it easier to work up
the courage to do it.

It’s Back - and with a Vengeance

Friday, July 7th, 2006

When I was first diagnosed with diabetes at the end of December my doctor
put me on Byetta and Metformin. I started the Metformin five days after the
Byetta and when I did I got diarrhea that was the worst I had experienced in
my life. After two weeks my doctor took me off the Metformin and the
diarrhea stopped. Starting this past week it is back again and now I
realize I only thought what I had before was the worst I’ve experienced. I
can hardly make it to the bathroom. I have to be sure I drink plenty of
water or I will get dehydrated. Byetta is the only new medication I am on
and I have been on it for 2 1/2 months and my diet is pretty consistent.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Curves

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

I am joining Curves today.

I was a memeber for a year 7 years ago. I lost 50 pounds at that
time, which I have put back on since then. Never should have stopped
going! Didn’t have Diabetes back then, either.

Anyway, I am joining today. Bring in a bag of food and our Curves
waives the $140 joining fee. Then it’s $37 a month by bank draft. I
am going to look into pre-paying the year to see if that saves me
any.

This is an investment in myself. My hubby said "go for it", so I am
NOT going to feel guilty about the money. I am considering it
another "prescription". LOL

BYETTA® Now Offers More Convenient Storage

How to store your BYETTA® Pen
While you no longer need to refrigerate the pen you are currently using,
your new, unused BYETTA Pen must be kept refrigerated at 36°F to 46°F (2°C
to 8°C). It is important that you follow these guidelines for the storage of
your BYETTA Pen:

Prior to first use, store your new, unused BYETTA Pen in the refrigerator
at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) protected from light

After first use, your BYETTA Pen can be kept at a room temperature not to
exceed 77°F (25°C)

Do not freeze BYETTA. Throw away the BYETTA Pen if it has been frozen

Thanks for the quick, and comforting replies to this newbie.

I am going to take your advice and wait and start on Tuesday. I am off
work and can see how I feel with my first dose of the Byetta. I will
also start with one dose a day and work up the the two.

You guys were GREAT!!! Thank you for your suggestions.

I am glad I found this board.

Mary :)

The World’s Healthiest Foods

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

Hi People,

I’m a newbie, been on Byetta for 3 weeks and have lost only about 6
pounds. I’m a guy, 52 years old, 280 lbs, diabetic and take metformin
500mg twice a day. But I understand that 2 lbs a week is a healthy
way to lose weight, so I’m not too concerned.

I haven’t had any problems with the Byetta. The needles are so small
they don’t hurt. And I haven’t had any nausea. I guess I’m lucky.

The latter is a free site, but the Food Diary is $9 a month.

But together I find them to be a great resource for deciding what to
eat every day. I just thought I’d tell everyone about them.

I am happy to have found this group. My doctor prescribed Byetta on
Thursday. I have the pen but have not started yet. The shot and the
naseua is scaring me.

I’d appreciate comments and support. I told my husband I would start
on Monday…but I’m not there mentally yet.

Yes, I know, I am being a big baby.
