Yes, I did gain weight on Metformin ER. I was hungry within about 30 minutes of
taking the first dose of the day, and hungry (and eating) until I went to bed.
Now, on Byetta and Metformin, I am losing weight, because I'm not hungry all the
time.

zen6c45,
I never gained weight on Metformin (didn't exactly lose it, either!)
but I lost about 30 pounds my first 10 weeks on Byetta (that's what
happens when you throw up at least once a day - learned my lesson on
that, I just don't eat). About six months later, I started having
terrible shoulder problems. It was either Byetta nausea or tend to
the shoulder (and eventually surgery) - the Byetta went.
I've just started back and here's the damage:
Gained back about 10 pounds of the weight loss (not too bad)
Jumped 1.0 in my A1c (NOT happy about that!)
I've already started back with the nausea and eating is a thing of the
past. This is a great med, but I can't relate to people talking about
revamping their eating habits. I guess they're not too nauseated. I
can't eat but a couple of spoonfuls of anything and I guess it can't
hurt me too bad unless it's two spoons of sugar!
<!--more-->
