New

I am happy to have found this group. My doctor prescribed Byetta on
Thursday. I have the pen but have not started yet. The shot and the
naseua is scaring me.

I’d appreciate comments and support. I told my husband I would start
on Monday…but I’m not there mentally yet.

Yes, I know, I am being a big baby.

I too, was scared of the nausea..not much I hate more than feeling
nauseated! but I was surprised! the only nausea I had was when I ate too
much. then I puked, but it seemed just "enough" small amount and felt
better. my Doc said if the nausea got too bad she would give me some
phenergan ( an anti-nausea drug) to get me through it, but haven’t needed it
I do notice that it doesn’t really kill my appetite as much as nothing
sounds good, ya know? you can feel very hungry, but nothing sounds good
enough to eat. do you work outside the home? I started mine on my day off
so if I did get sick, it wouldn’t be at work. let us know it works out for
    you! We’re here for ya!

    Hi Ozark!

I put off starting from December (who wants to feel sickish at
Christmas) to January. Once I began, I had two squeamish days, and that
was it! I felt fine almost all the time. Do you like Ginger Ale? I
find that diet Ginger ale calms my stomach down if I start feeling the
    list little bit nauseated.

Since starting the 10 mcg Byetta, I have had a few more episodes, but as
I learn to manage what to eat better, that is improving too.

No, I don’t think you are being a baby, I really hate feeling sick and
normally I seldom am, so nausea was not something I was used to.
But it works itself out, I think.

The pluses that Byetta brings are much more than the minuses!

Hello, Well, I am and always have been a big baby:).

I’ve read that 44% of Byetta users get the nausea side effect, so many
    people don’t.

I have been one that had a real struggle with side effects and still
have days whereby I have nausea and fatigue, tho it is much better than
    the beginning.

I would do it all again because the health benefits have been terrific.

Knowing what I know now, if starting out new on this med I would take 1
dose per day until I could figure out how it would affect me.

There really is no hurry…better to slowly adjust if side effects

appear than to crash and burn and go off the drug.

Be flexible and adaptable with the med.The 2 rules tho that I ALWAYS
follow is to wait 6 hours between doses and to eat within the hour
    after the med.

For awhile there I got real sleepy 2 hours after the shot so took it at
odd times so I could rest, such as 3am .

Once you adjust to the med you can move shots to regular hours.

Of course you could be one of the many with no side effects and not have
    to do any of this.

The needles are so thin that, most likely, you will not even feel it when
you stick it into your abdomen. There is a chance you may not have any
nausea. I have never had nausea. My doctor suggested I set a timer when I
take my shot and start eating fifteen minutes later. That has worked well
for me. Each person is different so you have to find what works for you.
You just need to eat within one hour of the shot and be sure there are at
least six hours between the shots. If I have a snack I try to have it three
    hours after my meal.

If you are prone to nausea in general, you might start on the defensive.
You can get ginger capsules at health food stores and many drugstores. Take
one a half hour before you take your injection. Also, have some ginger ale
on hand and sip on it through a straw if you start having nausea. That is
what my teen does who has severe motion sickness when we travel. Both of
these things have helped her so she now enjoys our vacations.

First off…about the injections….it is not as bad as a finger
stick. I do all of mine in my stoach and don’t even feel them.

My doctor started me off with one injection a day for a week and after
that week I went to two. That helped my body adjust to the medication
and I had few side effects. I did myfirst injections before dinner.
I have since gone from 5 mg to 10 and, once again, he had me start
    with one injection a day.

I only got sick when I overate. Acid reflux was a problem in the
beginning so I ate very little fats or spicy foods at first. I made
vegetables the main dish with meat as a side dish. I eat small meals
and have a snack two hours later if I feel hungry.

The injections are to be taken one hour or less before a meal. I take

mine about 30 minutes before I eat. I do not eat anything for an hour
before it is time for an injection and that helps.

Be sure to drink plenty of water. If you are not hungry, you might
not feel thirsty either. Don’t get dehydrated.

The side effects can be difficult but if you don’t overeat and don’t
eat too much fat or spicy stuff you should be okay.

As others have said, the benefits of Byetta outweigh the bad stuff.
The nurse told me that the people who do best are those who approach
    this with a positive attitude!

Hey, you’re not being a big baby…I have my partner and my best friend hold
me down for my first injection….And then my partner gave me the injection
for a week following that….I realized quickly that the pen doesn’t hurt at
all, and my partner isn’t always going to be home when I need to take the
injection….My BS levels have been great, like a 96 in the morning…I
couldn’t believe it, and once it was 73 and I actually thought my meter was
broken….Just know that it will be worth it in the long run….I know this
sounds odd, but when I see my BS levels so low, I always think, I’m not

I joined Curves today. My first workout was great. I am tired, but
feel good. The staff was wonderful and the gym is clean and cool and
the program easy to understand. I am going to really enjoy it.

I will start my Byetta tomorrow. I am armed with Rolaids, Sea Bands
and will eat carefully. Thanks for all the advice.

Keep us posted with your progress. I did Dance Yourself Thin By Prevention. It
was fun. I think I prefer real people that sweat and don’t do the workout
perfect like at the gym. But, for now this will do.
