stressed–will this be easier

I am on metformin, actos and byetta. I woke up this morning at 4 am with the
baby. I checked my blood sugar. It was 271. I went back to bed. when I got
up at 7 it was 312. It is about the same now. I ate two hours ago.

I cannot figure out weather to eat carbs or not eat carbs. For breakfast I at
two pieces of wheat toast and an egg. That is usually a good breakfast and
seems to normalize my bs numbers. Not today. this is not working. I have not
been feeling well for a week and I am getting tired of it. for lunch I plan to
have a salad. I have not been eating many carbs this last bit.

have any of you heard about some bad side effects of Byetta

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

I’m particularly interested in serious complications such as
gastroparesis and/or ischemic colon

My Byetta seems to be affecting my Effexor

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

I just started 5 mcg of Byetta. I typically take Effexor XR and
Lamictal at bedtime for Bipolar II depression. I have been unusually
depressed sinced starting Byetta, so I think the Byetta may be
interfering with the absortion of the Effexor. DOes anyone have
experience with this? I take a lot of meds at bedtime–has anyone
else had problems with their bedtime meds not working? I usually have
my dinner shot at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7 PM, and betime meds at 10:30 PM.

My saga

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

I’ve been fairly quiet in groups for a while, not having anything worthwhile to
share. Rather, I was embarrassed because I had fallen off the wagon yet again.
Last month, I went to the doctor to get refills and try to get back on track.
We decided to start over, taking everything away but Byetta, and moving from
metformin to avandamet. One month. Yeah, I averaged mid 300’s the whole month.
I felt like complete crap. AND, without any insulin, I felt extremely deprived
to the point of frustration and tears. Trying to quit certain foods was like
trying to quit smoking. My poor husband…
I went back on Monday and shared my numbers. We doubled the avandamet and added
Lantus. I didn’t get my Lantus until Wed, and woke to a 217 today, which was
well over 100 points UNDER what I had been waking to. However, breakfast pushed
me right back up. While I was at work today, my PA called me and told me that
my c-peptide came back and that my pancreatic function is not much. She called
in humalog for me, which I will pick up tomorrow. And I will start my new
regimen. And, depending on how it goes, we may talk about pumping. It was

New Oral Drug For Type 2 Diabetes Shows Promise

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The first of a new class of oral antidiabetic
drugs is able to lower blood sugar (glucose) in type 2 diabetes as well as
Avandia (rosiglitazone) does, but without causing weight gain, according to
a report in the journal Diabetes Care.

The new agent, vildagliptin, also known by the brand name Galvus, is
awaiting regulatory approval in the U.S. and Europe. The new drug class,
dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitors, improves cell responsiveness to
glucose, the authors explain.

Dr. Julio Rosenstock from the Dallas Diabetes and Endocrine Center, and
colleagues compared the effectiveness and tolerability of vildagliptin
versus rosiglitazone (the generic name for Avandia) in nearly 800 patients
with previously untreated type 2 diabetes.

Signe-rewrds and walking

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

My home is much friendly to a good diet than it used to be. It was never that
bad. We only had pop every once in awhile. Cookies and breads were my
downfall for the most part. I guess we also ate a lot of pasta. I have figured
out how to eat other stuff. I am still trying to find the balance so that my
kids learn to eat treats in moderation. So sometimes having a reward in mind
keeps me on track when I may stray a bit.

Be easy on yourself about the diet coke and such. I think it is a process I
have been working to get where I am right now for several years. Learning and
changing slowly. Even before I became diabetic. It takes time.

Good luck with the walking. I did that for a while and loved it. I will start
walking when it warms up but I will have to bring a stroller for my little one.
That will be fun, I hope. If that does not work you might enjoy water aerobics.
I did that until my baby was born and loved it. it is an excellent workout that

I’m new to the group!

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

My name is Kimberly and I’m new to the group. I am 32 years old and
have been taking Byetta 5, twice per day for the the past month. My
official diagnosis is insulin resistance. When I firt started taking
the med I had some nausea but it was very helpful to eat a couple
saltine crackers.

My major qestion right now is how do you know when your pen is out of
juice? I know the website says to throw it away after 30 days but I
have a few doses and will take my chance of the med still being good
after the 30 days. Will you not be able to turn the pen once it’s
finished?

After this pen I’m starting the 10 and I’m really concerned about the
side effects being worse.

Subject: Important for Women Drivers

Please tell all the women and men you know about this feature!

I knew about the red light on cars, but not the *77. It was about 1:00 p.m. in
the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car
pulled up behind her and put his lights on. *Lauren’s parents have always told
them never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather
to wait until they get to a gas station, etc. *

Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *77 on
her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right
away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car
with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to
see if there were police cars where she was and there weren’t, and he told her

Dealing with Dawn Phenomenon

*Dealing with Dawn Phenomenon*

There are many ways of defeating Dawn Phenomenon. You will have to
experiment with the following suggestions to see what works for you.

1. Try eating no food after dinner. This works for people whose Dawn
Phenomenon isn’t very strong. Basically, it lowers their baseline BG, so
that when DP does hit them, the increase keeps them below a certain level,
usually 120 (6.7).
2. Try eating a small snack of fat and protein before bed. Most find
that a tablespoon of peanut butter, or some cheese and deli meat are
effective. The theory here is that the slow-digesting fat and protein holds
their BG high enough overnight to avoid Somogyi Effect (see below).
3. Eventually, you will learn how the two disparate approaches above
work for you. Hopefully, you will set personal targets to guide you, eg., if
