Friday, June 23rd, 2006

newby posting. I started 10mcg twice a day about a month ago. I didn’t
have much nausea w/ the 5mcg, but boy this larger dose is really making
me nauseous. Any ideas? I take it 30 minutes before breakfast and
supper. I don’t get as nauseous in the morning but the evening dose
really bothers me. Thanks for any suggestions.

The death of Libby Zion, an 18-year-old college student, in a New York
hospital on March 5, 1984, led to a highly publicized court battle and
created a cause célèbre over the lack of supervision of inexperienced
and overworked young doctors. But only much later did experts zero in on
the preventable disorder that apparently led to Ms. Zion’s death: a form
of drug poisoning called serotonin syndrome.

Thyroid Cancer

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

Greetings from Alaska.

I just found out, last Wednesday, that I have Thyroid cancer. I wanted
to mention this to the group so that folks can get their Thyroid
checked at their yearly exam.

This cancer is curable but results in having the Thyroid removed and
one course of Radioactive Iodine as treatment.

Please make sure your regular doctor check for this cancer as it tends
to be discovered by the doctor feeling your gland and seeing if any
lumps are felt. You might then need to get a biopsy to see if it is
cancer.

Please make sure you get checked out!

Many women aren’t aware of those aspects of diabetes that pertain just
to them. Even if one of the following issues isn’t a problem for you
right now, it’s important to know about them for your future health and
for that of others.

Yeast infections. I have heard the story many times how diabetes was
actually diagnosed by a gynecologist in women who had frequent yeast
infections. Elevated blood glucose levels provide an environment for

No matter what kind of insurance you have, it’s important to know your
benefits. In my opinion, Medicare provides some of the best coverage I
have seen to date for diabetes.

If you’re not yet eligible to be covered by Medicare, you may think this
entry doesn’t apply to you. But you probably know someone who has
Medicare and diabetes or is at risk for diabetes. And even if you’re

Need carbs for Byetta?

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

"I’m following a low carb diet for a change sans Byetta and I think I’ve
lost maybe 4 pounds this week. I just don’t want to take the chance of
Byetta making me sick so I can’t take care of my darling little
grandbabies. But if my A1C doesn’t come down also, I will consider giving
it a try."

Glad to hear you are taking the lowering carb to match available insulin
method of glucose control. Now add the byetta to give it and you the very
best chance of being around for your babies, with eyes and legs and kidnies
to make sure they and you have as much complication free time as possible.

meat was been taking Byetta sence Nov 1

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

All by itself the protein in meat slows gastric emptying because it is
mostly broken down in the stomach while carbs and fat are digested mostly
in the mouth and small gut. When the gastric emptying slowing effect of
byetta is added to this, higher protein foods remain even longer in the
stomach and contribute to the gastric upset people report. Eating meat and
other protein high foods in smaller amounts might help and making sure meat
is well cooked for longer times which speeds its digestion make sense too.

Milk and egg and soy protein are easier to digest as are those fermented
or canned or cooked using marinades such as many fish which also speed
protein breakdown. And mechanical breakdown helps, chew, chew.
