Quick Byetta Success Story

I met a woman at curves today who was *very big*. I heard her talking about
her weight loss - she went on Byetta last August and joined Curves in
November. She has lost 88 pounds.

    I’ve always hated all exercising except riding a real bicycle. I know that
    my lack of exercise has been about 80% of the main reason I have gained too
    much weight over the last 16 years. The Byetta, for me, has only been a
    minor factor in helping me lose a *few* pounds — it does not seem to affect
    how hungry I am at meals but does help me not to mindlessly eat at other
    times. The blessing of Byetta for me is that it keeps my BS almost always
    between 88 and 108. Only twice has it gone up (and only to 138 one hour
    after eating). Having my BS level has made me feel good and given me more
    energy. I told my doctor at my last visit that I did not realize I felt
    ‘bad’ until I felt good. I know some of you understand that.

    One year ago, before my diabetes diagnosis and before Byetta, I weighed 208
    pounds - and I am only 5′ 2". I was wearing a size 22 (2X). My main
    concern is that I carry almost all of my fat in my abdomen (as did so many
    in my father’s family who died from heart disease before they were 60).

    So, on March 1, 2006 I joined Curves with a goal of losing 1/2 pound a
    week. I ate low-glycemically about 85% of the time (not enough - but an
    improvement).
    Unfortunately I had a period of five months I was not able to exercise at
    all due to herniated discs and a pinched nerve. However, during that five
    months I was diligent with eating right and only put on two pounds during
    that time. I’ve been back on track now with Curves. I’ve been on Byetta
    for 2 1/2 months.

    I will have my yearly check at Curves this coming Wednesday. I know I will
    not make my goal of 26 but I know I have lost 20. I am down to a size 18
    (XL) If you hate to exercise, like me, Curves is a great motivator. Even
    though I tend to be a quiet person and don’t socialize much, I enjoy the
    comradierie, banter, and laughter at Curves. I can’t believe that 30
    minutes have passed and I’ve gotten a good work-out - the time passes so
    quick. I go at least three days a week - and four most weeks. That is
    usually the only exercise I get.

    My goal from the beginning has been to get down to 160 which would probably
    be a size 16 for me. I know that is way to much for 5′2" - but I know
    that I felt good before at that weight. My plan has been to do that over
    three years. I refuse to crash diet or not eat healthy and I would be
    miserable if I was hungry all the time (or at all!) I know that my 3-4 30
    minute work-outs is all I will do. I figure it took me 16 years to put on
    48 pounds - I should not expect my body to shed them in 1-2 years.

    At Curves you will see all ages, all body types, all sizes. You will never
    feel uncomfortable and most of the Curves owners are awesome people who are
    very encouraging. You may be able to get your BS down with Byetta and you
    may lose many pounds - but I am convinced you will never be as healthy as
    you can be if you don’t get in a few hours of exercise each week.

    Hello Nita, Your weight loss strategy sounds extremely sensible and
    healthy.

    Can you tell how much the monthly Curves fee is? We have one a few
    blocks from our house and you have got me intertested.

    Right now I use the Marine base gym which is 20 mins. drive from our
    house.
    It is free to military retirees and air conditioned.

    It’s nice but most of the users are,naturally, young marines. They are
    very nice, calling me ma’am etc. but it would be great to exercise with
    other women nearer my age group.

    bank draft withdrawal - or I think you can pay monthly for $39.00 a month.
    I did not want to give myself any excuses and paid mine as an annual fee
    (you get a 10% discount). I think it was around $318 - $324. Knowing I had
    invested that much money in myself kept me going when, at times, I might not
    have. They are building a YMCA right up the street from us and we will be
    getting a family membership because my husband and daughter play tennis. I
    could then use their equipment for free - however, I joined a Y before I
    joined Curves and quit after one month. All the muscles and buffed and
    already toned bodies made me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. While
    there are many at Curves who are toned and ‘active’ looking and in good
    shape, they are very encouraging and most have been at some point in their
    life where I am.

    don’t want to do the gym right now. I don’t want to take my son to the nursery
    yet. Maybe soon but, I also don’t want to go back to spending the money. Even
    though it is an investment in myself. I want to see what I can do at home
    first.

    *When I joined last March my goal was 25 pounds - a healthy 1/2 lb a week.
    I will have my weigh-in this Wednesday and will see how close I have come.
    I know I have lost 20. I think 10 or 20 pound goals are very reasonable.
    My goal this year is to lose another 10. I am 54 and I have found it harder
    to lose weight as I have gotten older. I’ve never been able to keep off
    weight I lose when I lose too fast - so, though, I would have loved to have
    lost a lot more, I am proud of the 20 or so I have lost. I’ll let you know
    on Wednesday how many inches and how much body fat (they have an analyzer) I
    have lost, too.*

    *I don’t find it boring because I enjoy listening to all the chatter of the
    other women - plus, the music is upbeat and keeps you moving. Most Curves
    have a large circuit and you go around it twice and that is your 30
    minutes. The Curves I go to has a smaller circuit so you don’t have quite
    the variety of equipment and you go around three times. I used to go to one
    that was larger and preferred it - but, like you said - any exercise is
    good. Every single time I go I am glad I went. I always feel more
    energetic after a work-out.*
