nausea w/ increased dose

newby posting. I started 10mcg twice a day about a month ago. I didn’t
have much nausea w/ the 5mcg, but boy this larger dose is really making
me nauseous. Any ideas? I take it 30 minutes before breakfast and
supper. I don’t get as nauseous in the morning but the evening dose
really bothers me. Thanks for any suggestions.

I found that taking the shot immediately before eating helps. If I
am not able to do so then I modify where I administer the shot,
using my arm or thigh. On occassion I do get nauseous, but watching
the amount I eat and DRINK makes a difference. If I still get
nauseous I pop 2 peppermint tic tacs and that seems to help.

has anyone found a difference in their numbers depending on where they give
    the shot? jude

I went through the same thing—did fine with 5 mcg, switched to 10
mcg and had nausea from hell with diarrhea. I had to take off work
for a few days and was about to ask the doctor to switch me back when
suddenly it all stopped. I recommend doing the following:

    1. Hang in there.
    2. Find your personal "sweet spot" regarding when to eat. For me,
it is between 20 and 40 minutes after taking the shot. This makes
eating out a pain, though, since I take the shot at home. We then
have to get to a restaurant where we know there won’t be a wait.
    3. Find out what foods do what to you. I can’t eat very fatty foods
on Byetta or I will get sick.
    4. Learn when to stop eating. Typically I eat about two bites and
then feel like I can’t eat more. I make myself eat about half of a
full serving since I must take some other meds with food, but I never

keep eating once I feel full.

If these tricks don’t help after a week, I would talk to the doctor.
You may need to switch back, or you may need to add Phenergan to
    control the nausea.

    Good luck!

I had some nausea with the 5, but I got used to it. When they moved me
up to the 10, I couldn’t keep anything down. Not even water. I went
through 9 days like this, living on tiny sips of gatorade. My doctor
finally pulled the plug and put me back to the 5. When I went back to
the 5, I had intense nausea suddenly. It’s taken me almost two months
back on the 5 to get back to the point I had been at. My worst time is
morning. I don’t usually get sick at night. I do, however, still have
times when I will just throw up everything. I usually take my shot from
15-30 minutes before I eat. I do notice that I get the sickest when I
don’t have much protein, but I don’t want to eat much of anything after
the shot. I’ve lost 25 lbs since I started all of this back in
November. Chewing mint gum does help me a little when I feel sick.

    Hope it improves for you
