but I had/have been eating 85 to 100 carbohydrate grams in three meals a day for
over 5 years now, since starting Humalog.

thought I better explain that one ….85 to 100 carbohydrate grams a day…not a
meal. 30 for breakfast, 30 for lunch and 30 to 45 for dinner. I know my
addition wasn’t correct. Should have been 90 to 105 grams… 6 to 7 carb
servings a day.

Hi everyone,

Been a while since I’ve written a progress report so here goes.

Started Byetta Jan. 2006. Had some stomach upset, but not too bad. Found some
Ginger tablets at Wally World and that seemed to take care of the worst of it.

My diet hardly changed from the one my dietican had me on…. although I am
usually eating at little less at dinner time that I use to. I know this will
upset some of you here, but I had/have been eating 85 to 100 carbohydrate grams
in three meals a day for over 5 years now, since starting Humalog. That hasn’t
changed, but everything else has. Byetta has been a miracle drug for me.

My A1c has been 6 and below since the third month on Byetta when I went in for
my first check up since starting. The last one was 5.5. I’ve also lost over

Vomiting vs. Nausea

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

I know most everyone has had nausea while being on byetta but how
many have actually vomited if you overeat?

At first I thought I had the bug that was going around until the
other night I forgot my spit at home and couldn’t get it and I
didn’t get sick that night.

It only happens with the 2nd dose of the day, never the first.

So is it just me being a pig or what?

Thanks
Carrie

shot in the thigh

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Awhile ago I posted about giving myself the byetta in my thigh and getting a big
bruise. Well I did not try it again for a long time then one day I decided to
do it again. It was just easier with the clothing I was wearing. I was wearing
my contacts this time and made sure that I was not near any veins or anything.
It did not hurt this time and no bruise. I sometimes bruise on my stomach so I

new to group and new to Byetta

Hi! my name is Patty, i’m a nurse in long-term care so wrapped up in
my patients that i didn’t see my own sign and symptoms of diabetes
until i ended up in the ER! i was diagnosed in Nov. started on humolog
70/30 30 units 2xs daily with metformin 850 3xs daily. i had dramatic
ups and downs..lot of days don’t have time to eat at work (the lows)
then made up for it at home (the ups). i spoke with my Dr. told her
about having trouble controlling my appetite and she suggested i start
Byetta. i was afraid of the stories of the nausea with byetta, but
then again i have never had the diarrhea with metformin..so i decided
to give it a try.
day 3 of byetta, and i have had only one nausea episode, and that was
after eating too much. i am already recognizing the signal to STOP
eating. so far so good. i am very excited to hear others stories and
experiences with byetta. love, peace and hugs, Patty

Six days

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

Today is my 6th day on Byetta and I feel wonderful. I should have been
on this months ago. I haven’t had any nausea or side affets that I can
tell. I feel like I may have lost a bit of weight, but I haven’t
weighed.

I feel like my old self again. My energy is through the roof and I no
longer want to sleep after I eat. With the exception of my first
breakfast after my first shot my BS has been good. I check my BS
several times a day and there have been some low’s but I just eat a
little something and it’s okay again. I have had a few low’s in the
80’s. At least that is low to me.

I almost had to beg my doctor for this drug. He said the only benefit
might be some weight loss. My A1C was 6.1 and I’ll be curious what it
is when I have the next test.

Grapefruit and Byetta

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

I am beginning to think that grapefruit was what has been causing my lows.
I think it must do what it does with some of the blood pressure medicine and
make them more effective. I do know that the effects of grapefruit can stay
in your system for over 48 hours hours. So the days I was eating grapefruit
and the next day I would have the lows. I imagine most people here are on
BP meds and don’t eat grapefruit so I think it would be pointless to ask if
anyone else has had the same problem. Just thought I would toss this out.
I have quit eating the grapefruit and quit having the lows - at least for
now.

What happens if you don’t eat within an hour of taking a shot, or not
at all?

Problems with Week One of Increasing to 10 mcg Byetta

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Have others had unexpected problems making this leap? I expected some
increase in the minor nausea I experienced with the 5 mcg dosage, but
not the occasionally debilitating nause–not to mention extreme
diarrhea. Have others lost bowel control?
