Byetta and Drug Interactions

I was doing some research trying to determine if grapefruit interacts with
Byetta at all. I could not find anything about that. I was just wondering
if it was a coincidence that my BS dropped on the days I ate a grapefruit.
The hotline nurse was busy and has not returned my call.

However, I did find some drug interactions for Byetta. The Lovastatin I
take was on the list - saying that Byetta may decrease the effects. I will
discuss this with my doctor to see if we need to adjust the time I take it.
I cannot take any other kind of statin.

I think grapefruit interacts (badly) with most statins.

I think you are right - and most blood pressure medications. Most diabetics
are on one or both. I hope to find out if it interacts with Byetta.

Grapefruit for some drugs speeds up gut absorption so the amount in the
blood is larger sooner then that for which the drug was evaluated. Taking
the drug at other times can be a solution, talk to your druggist who is
most likely to have the most current information. Byetta as injected will
    have no such interaction.

There is some small evidence that grapefruit aids in slower glucose
absorption. It could be a relative thing, as a fruit it is among the lower
set of fruits on the glycemic index. So if you are replacing other fruits
on those days with it the effect might be lower glucose peaks. On average
it has around 20 g of carbs for a whole fruit. I eat it often, a half at a

time. Eating all of the pulp is also good as it contains considerable
fiber of a kind good for a diabetic.
