Okay…NOW what???

Well, if you remember, I had decided to talk to my NP about a referral to
see an endocrinologist. I told her the one in Knoxville that took my
insurance. Well, I got my referral, but it is to see an NP in the endo’s
office! What do you think? Should I just see the NP there? Or should I
change my appointment to see one of the Endo Dr’s? I just feel that because
my insurance is state insurance (long story), that I am just getting
shuffled around and not getting the best care. Do you think it could be
that my insurance only allows me to see an NP? What should I do?

Hello Demetria, Call them up and say that for the first appointment and
evaluation that you want to see the Endo. That you are already under the
care of a N.P. and want an Endo’s insights, that’s why you asked for the
    referral.

By the Way, I’ve had care from internists,an Endo and now a Diabetes
N.P. and hands down her care is the most comprehensive and aggressive.

Is there a big difference in when you can be seen by the actual endo and the
    NP?

I took that route just to get in the door at the rheumotologist office.
(Not a NP but a PA, but similar situation.) Wait list to see the doc was
almost 6 months. I could see the PA right away. So I took the appointment,
and she started labs and did a specific lupus exam and then had reason to
think I definitely required follow up with the doc, so I got in much faster
than if I had just called and requested an appointment.

I realize it doesn’t always work out that way though. Sometimes you never
get to see the actual doctor.
