Ok I tried everyones suggestions and have had limited success. The sea bands
worked well
the first week. I found some ginger suckers called gin gins and they seem to
work well to
stave off the nausea. You can get these at Whole Foods. So I am still throwing
up and will
probabl combine the zofran and the gin gins for now.

Thanks for the help

Ted~~
From talking to a couple of my cousins that have to take the Boniva I'd say
that was what was causing you some of the nausea. They said it takes them about
a week to get over the side effects from taking it one day. Nausea is one of
them. That, with the Byetta, must be rough. I suffered for a month and 3 days
to be exact. I was almost ready to call it quits and I simply got over it. I
couldn't believe I wasn't nauseate anymore. Thought I'd not given myself the
correct dose or the Byetta was what?, diluted? I was so shocked that I wasn't
nauseated cause it was so bad some days I could barely talk without gagging. My
heart goes out to you. Nothing really worked good for my nausea. Maybe mints?
I felt so sick I couldn't even suck on them! I hope you get some relief soon!
Mkay

I have been on byetta for at least a year now. And I have lost over 30 pounds
with. But I
<!--more-->
am STILL having nausea almost everyday. My sugars aren't very good because I
have to
take breaks from byetta due to all the nausea. So my question what are your
ideas for
preventing this nausea. One thing that might be causing it is all the medicines
I take.
They are

Cortef (hydrocortisone)
DDAVP (desmopressin acetate)
Synthroid
Androgel
Metformin
Glucotrol
Byetta
Boniva for osteopoosis
Zofran for the nausea but it does not work very well
axxert
accupril
ambien

But I think the problem is mostly the Byetta.

Thanks

Hi Listers,

I am not sure now who wrote and said they began shooting in their upper
arm for little to no nausea. This works for me, too! I was not having
bad nausea but just feeling a little squeamish after shooting so I have
been using upper arm and seem to be free of that slight feeling of
squeamishness! Very nice and thanks to whomever shared this! Perhaps
it was Marge?

I am so *used* to the incessant hunger and cravings that it has almost
been hard to recognize that it is not there anymore. I am working with
myself to notice this, all day long, and I feel it will be a wonderful
new habit to learn.

Cheers,
<!--more-->

Hello Nita, Thanks for your support!
I know many people get the cold feelings after the shots. It seems to be
the one side effect that I don't get.

Yes,It has been quite liberating to be free of incessant appetite and
cravings for food. So glad to hear that it's working for you also.

Your loss of 5 lbs for the month is terrific. That's about how much I
lost per month , not super fast but reasonable(and to my mind also a
miracle:)

Aloha, Marge

Wow - thank you for sharing your story. You have definitely stood fast!
Many, I am sure, have given up under less problems than you have
experienced. 22 pounds is great and you should be proud of yourself.

My only side effect has been being so cold for at least three hours after I
take the shots. I lost 5 pounds in less than one month - yes, that is slow,
<!--more-->
but it is weight loss. What Byetta has done for me, in addition to keeping
my BS within normal limits, is to keep me from THINKING about food all the
time. That has enabled me to be pro-active in choosing only healthy food to
eat. Eating healthier has made me feel so much better. I am still hungry
when I sit down to eat - but not at all in between meals. I can now control
the food I eat instead of the food I eat controlling me. It is very
freeing.

The neuropathy in my right leg is no longer debilitating and I've been able
to exercise now three days a week for 30 minutes. I was not able to do that
for over five months. The way I described it to my doctor is what she says
she hears from patients all the time - "I didn't know I felt bad until I
felt good".

Ted, one of the side effects of Boniva is also gastro upset.
You can overeat byetta and that will cause nausea in a lot of folks. You
state your "full button" is faulty. You might want to make sure you are
not eating too much at your meals. Many have found that certain foods
will set them off too. It is a game of trial and error*G*

Hope you find out what is going on. Some use phenergan for the nausea
and imodium for the diarrhea.

Hello Ted, I've been on Byetta 5 for 2 months and Byetta 10 for 2
months.

So, am starting my 5th month on Byetta.

I've had severe side effects of nausea, dizziness and fatigue. Some days
could barely get out of bed.

I've never had the cold feeling or watery mouth but in the early days
had congested sinuses.

I slowly adapted by taking my shots at odd times so the side effects
were less debilitating. For example, taking the first shot of the day at
3-4 A.M. having a glass of milk and sleeping off the worst of it.

<!--more-->
I then graduated to taking the 2nd shot before bed with a small snack
and sleeping thru the worst of the effects.

FINALLY, As I begin my 5th month I can tolerate taking a morning and pre
dinner shot . Yes, I still feel queasy 2 hours post shots at times but
it's only occasionally.
The best news is that the dizziness and fatigue is gone and I feel good.

My BG is great, my appetite is low and I've lost 22lbs. Hey, 58lbs. to
go!

Two factors prevented me from giving up the Byetta. The hope to
re-generate Beta cells is one of them.
The chance to use the Byetta to lose some weight was irresistible.

I was 60 lbs overweight until foot surgery 6 years ago which caused me
to be less mobile for 6 months so I became 80 lbs overweight.Nothing I
tried could shift this weight.

I felt terrible. Aching joints, etc.

Finally, I feel some hope.

Hang in there!

Aloha, Marge

Try changeing to a different injection area. I found that when I went from my
stomach to my upper arm the nausea was decreased by at least 60 %. I don't know
if it will help you but it's always worth a try if you haven't tryed it already.
goodluck!

I have been on byetta for at least a year now. And I have lost over 30 pounds
with. But I
am STILL having nausea almost everyday. My sugars aren't very good because I
have to
take breaks from byetta due to all the nausea. So my question what are your
ideas for
preventing this nausea. One thing that might be causing it is all the medicines
I take.
They are

<!--more-->
Cortef (hydrocortisone)
DDAVP (desmopressin acetate)
Synthroid
Androgel
Metformin
Glucotrol
Byetta
Boniva for osteopoosis
Zofran for the nausea but it does not work very well
axxert
accupril
ambien

But I think the problem is mostly the Byetta.

Thanks
