Switchover to 10 Pen

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

I got my 10 Pen this evening and had no trouble doing the injection before
dinner. About five minutes later I had a funny feeling in my stomach where
I did the injection but it passed after a while. I ate 15-20 minutes
later. No nausea.

I will do the 5 for the next three mornings before work and the 10 at night
and then, if all goes okay, will stick to the 10 after Saturday.

I did something stupid tonight. When I did my BS check I hit the lancet in
a vein in my arm and it is swelling there.

Okay…NOW what???

Well, if you remember, I had decided to talk to my NP about a referral to
see an endocrinologist. I told her the one in Knoxville that took my
insurance. Well, I got my referral, but it is to see an NP in the endo’s
office! What do you think? Should I just see the NP there? Or should I
change my appointment to see one of the Endo Dr’s? I just feel that because
my insurance is state insurance (long story), that I am just getting
shuffled around and not getting the best care. Do you think it could be
that my insurance only allows me to see an NP? What should I do?

Severe cramps in Feet

Friday, April 28th, 2006

I know this is off the topic, but I suspect a lot of you suffer from these
terriblly painful
cramps as I do. I just heard that I will not be able to buy Quinnine Sulphate
anymore (thanks
to the FDA), and that is the only thing that stopped the cramps for me. Does
anyone out
there have any other suggestions? I would appreciate any ideas!
Thanks so much,

Nausea Nausea and more nausea

Friday, April 28th, 2006

Some background first. I am a brain tumour survivor. It was a pituitary tumor
and it
eliminated any function in my pituitary. Immediately after the surgery I gained
over 100
pounds for two reasons. 1. I was in the hospital for 3 days. 2. the pityitary
controls your
satiety sp? point. So a fear years after that I got diabetes.

I have been on byetta for at least a year now. And I have lost over 30 pounds
with. But I
am STILL having nausea almost everyday. My sugars aren’t very good because I
have to
take breaks from byetta due to all the nausea. So my question what are your
ideas for
preventing this nausea. One thing that might be causing it is all the medicines

Anyone with PCOS, not diabetes, taking Byetta

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

I just began taking Byetta last week. Is anyone with PCOS also taking
it? If so, please write and tell me if it has helped your symptoms and
sugar levels. Thank you so much.

Switch from 5 to 10

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

Hi everyone,

I was on the 5 mcg for three months. The first 2 weeks I was sick
constantly, vomiting and diarrhea, but then it eased off. Now that I
have switched, it’s back, but much, much worse than in the beginning. I
literally can’t keep ANYTHING down. I’ve only been on it for 6 days,
but it’s making me really weak. Broth, dry toast, crackers, nothing
helps. Also, about an hour after the injection, I’m freezing. I’m so
cold that three pairs of socks don’t warm my feet. Has anyone else
experienced this severe a reaction? Thanks.

I might as well eat the stuff that costs .49 at the local bag your own
store*G* It like so many other products is different for everyone. I
cooked it according to the directions and all, but BAM! the rise was
enormous. But then I cant subtract fiber from the total carbs either.
Maybe it depends on how shot your beta cells are. Who knows*G*

New to the group and Byetta

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Hi I am new to the group and to Byetta. My name is Tendra and my last
h1Bc was 7.1 so I had to do something to get it down. I just started
1/16/07 and I hardly want to eat but one thing is that I still get
hungry at night. I don’t know what is the best food to eat at night so
my blood glucose will not still be high at the morning. My mom could
not handle seeing me take the shots but I told her that you can’t feel
it. The first day I took it I was so nervous that I wanted to not take
it because I thought it would honestly hurt but it didn’t.

Needle question

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Having started Byetta a few weeks ago, I got some needles with the package.
However, I realized last night, that I was out! My pharmacy (that I love)
is in a Clinic and not open on Sunday, so I want to know the best thing to
do. Do I use an already used needle and do my two doses today and one
tomorrow? Or do I skip the next two Byetta doses? This is sort of a moot
question since I have already used a "used" needle for this mornings dose,
but I wonder if any of you reuse needles despite the Byetta warning.

I reuse syringes for Lantus and Novolog for quite a long time with no bad
effects.

Whole Control Golden Barley Cereal

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

I read about this when Mendosa tested it and ordered some:

You pretty much use it like oatmeal. My husband and I both prefer the taste
of this to oatmeal. This morning I had one serving (1/3 cup barley, 2/3
cups water) - just takes a few minutes to cook. When it was done I added 1
TBSP of dried blueberries. I took my shot and ate 15 minutes later. It was
so filling I could only eat 1/2 the serving. The glycemic index is low -
half that of oatmeal - and double the fiber of oatmeal. My husband has
never been able to eat oatmeal because he gets hungry soon after eating.
Today he did not get hungry until five hours later.

This barley is different from other barley’s which you can read about at the
website so don’t expect the same results with what you buy at the grocery
store. One serving is 142 calories and 6 g of fiber. Because of the high
fiber it would be a much better choice for anyone - especially those trying
