After reading other’s opinions, I decided to call the source and get
some information. Advice from Jamie ( a helathcare professional) at
the Byetta helpline: Clinical trials were conducted involving numerous
classes of drugs. In their expeience, it is okay to take other meds
and/or supplements along with your shot except for: steroids, birth

Scared

I was diagnosed in Sept with Type 2 Diabetes and my primary care physician
referred me to a Endocrinologist. I wanted to try Byetta and was given
prescription for 3(5 mcg) pens and 3(10 mcg) pens. I started Sept 29 on the
5 mcg pen and then in October I used 2nd refill for 5 mcg pen. I then
realized I syhould have been on 10 mcg dosage in October. I finished the
October 5 mcg pen but after Halloween went into major back slide and did not
take pens for Nov, Dec or Jan. Now I have to go in tomorrow and I know my
a1C is going to be way up. I have not even been taking BS readings.
Allot of my fear was after Nov backslide was afraid to restart in Dec on 10
mcg pen. When I started 5 mcg I was nauseated all the time so I can imagine
10 mcg. I did get used to 5 mcg pen and nausea went away but I just hate to
go thru that again. All of my excuses are not going to hold any water
tomorrow and I hate myself for sliding as I was in a real good managing
groove for first 2 months and had a A1C of 5.7…I will say that I had to
stay home and be very committed which made me tied up in a regiment of

Byetta Advice From My Physician

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

I am new to the group and have read some of the posts. Several have
mentioned their difficulty losing weight. My doctor said that she
has found with her Byetta patients that those who start eating 15
minutes after their injection have the best success with weight
loss. She said if you eat before that, you don’t get the full
effects and may continue to eat too much - and if you wait much after
that you may have more problems with nausea.

I dared not even dream of weight loss as I have struggled with my
weight for so long. I have been pre-diabetic for 5 years and this
past year I did manage to lose 18 pounds since Feb 06 by eating low
glycemic and, in general, pretty healthy foods. Then after several
episodes of severe blurred vision and passing out at my early morning
chiropractic visit I went to my doctor ten days ago and found out I
have diabetes. (It is a good thing I’ve mastered the low glycemic-

How do you take multiple meds was:New here and just started Byette 5

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

I am on byetta 2x daily, metformin 2x daily and Avandia 1x daily. I was getting
up and taking all my meds together. Then I went in to see my doctor. I had
read online that because the stomach empties slowly not to take oral med with
the shot. So now I take the oral meds first thing when I wake up. Wait an hour
then take my shot. I am supposed to wait a half hour after that to eat. I do
well with that for dinner but not always breakfast. I sometimes get very hungry
during the first. I have year old baby. (I cannot nurse.) So when he wakes up
at 6:30 am to eat I am trying to get in the habit of taking it then. It seems
to be working better. I hope it lowers it even more. My last "official" A1c
was 11.1 but after a month on the spit it went down a point.
At night I take my shot. Wait 1/2 hour and then eat. Before bed I take my
other Metformin and eat a small snack. It seems to work Ok.

I would love to hear how others take their meds.
