Alternating Doses

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

I as I’m sure many others skip a dose here and there when side effects
get a little overwhelming. I am on 5 and doc wants me on 10. Has
anyone kept both pens on hand and sometimes dosed 5 rather then 10
when they weren’t feeling well and then back to 10? Better yet they
should make a pen that you can dial a 5 or 10.

Did you try flicking the pen with your finger. Sometimes it is air
bubbles.
If you are questioning if it is safe you can call the byetta phone line.

Bubbles

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Hello,

New to this group, just started on Byetta on Monday. Today my pen
rolled off the counter, pen seems ok, but appears to be many small
bubbles in the pen. Is this a problem? Can I get rid of the bubbles?
Don’t know if it is ok to keep using. Like I said I’m new to this
injection stuff so any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Yahoo Glitch

Monday, January 9th, 2006

We had reports that on Tuesday December 5 users with SBC email
accounts (including sbcglobal, pacbell, swbell, snet, ameritech,
prodigy, wans, nvbell, and flash domains) began bouncing. The glitch
was on SBC’s end, caused by a fix to a different issue they
implemented on their servers that day. Our team has been working with
our contacts at SBC and the issue has been resolved.

Thanks to those of you who alerted us to the SBC bounces, and thanks
for your patience as we worked to resolve them.

Obese diabetics may be unrealistic about calories - No Way, Not Me!

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - New research suggests that obese adults
with diabetes often say they eat less than they actually do — a
problem that can hinder management of the disease, according to
researchers.

Their study of 21 obese men and women found that all of those with
type 2 diabetes reported eating far fewer daily calories than
objective tests suggested they did.

Researchers caught the erroneous reporting by using a sensitive
measure of metabolic rate known as the doubly-labeled water method.
All of the study participants had a stable weight, which would be
maintained when the amount eaten equals the calories burned each day.

But on average, diabetic adults reported a calorie intake that was

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for the information. Sometimes I do get a leak when I give
myself a shot.
I may want to try the next size.

Good luck with the 10 pen.

Wrong needles

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

Hello fellow Spitsters,

Been lurking for a few days taking in all the valuable information I
can especially ……..the needle dilemma. Been a concern of mine
since I started this treatment.

Went for 1 month check up today. Doing well with the "spit" lost
7lbs and numbers are pretty much stable except for the occassional
dawn phenomenon. So the spit is here to stay. I have never had any
untoward effects from this med. Stay tuned I start the 10 tomorrow.
I have my ginger ale and some fresh ginger to make a tea if it gets
too unbearable.

Spoke at length to my NP about the "needle dilemma" her answer
is "if you see the med leaking back out of the insertion site then

Meaning of Hypercarb

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

Lanie, the byetta helps a lot with keeping my bg down with carbs at a
meal. But if I eat too many carbs, my bg will rise. I have humalog to
help during those times. I only take humalog as needed, and it’s only
1-2 times a month. Sometimes, it’s as little as 1 or 2 units. I
micro-manage my diabetes.

When I was on the 10 mcg and after I’d lost weight, I had to eat more
carbs than I was comfortable with in order to not go into hypoglycmia. I
was experiencing hypos in the low 50s, with just byetta, no other meds
or insulin. So I dropped back to 5mcg, and am doing fine, but added 3
units of Lantus in the evening to get my morning reading lower than 100.
(It was running 110-115). I still use humalog as needed to cover those
times when I eat more carbs than my body can handle, but it’s not often.

Testing 3-4 times a day tells me how I’m doing with diet, exercise and
