Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] eating and levels
Mickey,
Maybe the byetta lingers in your body longer? If you are getting these
kind of results taking it this way, what would your results be taking
it the correct way? I only had nausea when I first started byetta. I
get queasy now and then, but not sure if it is byetta related. If it
seems to work 3 or 4 hours after you take it and have gotten good
results maybe if you should try to take it and then eat just before 1
hour expires. Maybe you will have even better results. I thought
someone said that the byetta stays working 2 or 3 hours after you have
eaten? Maybe your body absorbs it slower? Some people have taken
byetta after the meal and still got good results.
BTW, I did not get nausea, but had the rash, hives itch at the
injection site. I actually worked through it and now only once in a
blue moon will you see a red dot at the injection site.

I did try that Dale, I tryed it everyway t hat it was suggested to me. I got
almost the same results when I ate right after, Maybe just a little bit better.
I do however eat a couple of saltines and drink some gingerale or 7up during
that time also, but even that I throw up. I do do it though.

Hello Micki, I could not tolerate any liquids with my very small amount
of food right after the shots without throwing up.
Try this…..take shot, right away eat 1 small saltine cracker with a
light coating of cheese spread. Go back to bed or if staying awake drink
or eat NOTHING until 3 hours after the shots.Give it a try and report
back to the list.
As for how long Byetta stays in the system….it lingers for 24 hours in
my system,at least for BG and appetite control.
I think the important thing is to get the 2 shots of Byetta in your
system everyday however you can stand it and minimize side effects then
your body has a chance to slowly adapt to it and as side effects lessen
you can very slowly take it with a bit more food or whatever works for
optimum BG control.
We are in for the long haul with this drug. Best to take time to slowly
adjust instead of having to give it up,IMO.

Marge and Mickey….
Marge…you say that the byetta lingers for 24 hours….and Obviously Mickie
is getting the same type of result. Is there more here on the list that
this is happening to? If so, NOT FAIR! Well, I guess it is because
obviously the nausea is worse for y’all so I guess it evens out. Maybe your
bodies are more sensitive to the spit? I wonder if any research has been
done on this?

I have found that for the last 3 months or so (I’ve been on Byetta for
over a year now), it has been lasting me all day. In fact, I had to give
up my evening shot because my BG’s were dropping dangerously low every
evening. Now I take the 5 mcg AM, along with 1 Glucophage XR, and 2
Glucohpahges with supper. That’s all. And the effects last well into the
evening… every evening. I just finished supper, and I left over half
of it on my plate. I’m so stuffed if I had to eat anything else it would
not stay down. I had to force myself to eat a wee bit of lunch, and I
never snack during the day anymore. All in all, I’ve come down from
using the 10 pen twice a day to the 5 pen once a day, and my blood
sugars are great. Byetta rocks!

Hello Demetria, Yes, This 24 hour effect REALLY boggles my mind,as it
runs counter to everything I have read stating that it only lasts a few
hours.
Another thing that happens to me is that after a week or so of 2 a day
shots it seems to each almost an overdose of med in my system that
manifests as 24 hour nausea, not being able to eat and dizziness and
extreme fatigue.
When this happens I have found that skipping a shot seems to bring me
back into balance .
Since this is a gut hormone we are injecting it is added to whatever our
own bodies produce and also maybe we all break down these hormones at
different rates?
We are all fascinating ,unique beings and it’s so very interesting how
this med affects us all so differently!

Yes, Demetria, the nausea is horrible for me. I throw up violently time after
time and after time if I eat more than a cracker 2-4 hours after I take the
spit. I have tried taking food before, during, and after with the same effect
everytime and mind you, I have to force myself. I can’t even drink 1/2 of a 4oz
glass of water at once. However, I am still haveing problems getting medicaid
to pay for it, also, my Dr. put me on Jenuvia and medicaid won’t pay for that
either, so today he gave me a 20 dollar coupon to pay for part of the
presciption. The total for the rx was 34.87. I ended up paying 10.35. When I
got home and pulled out the prescription it had only five pills. 5 days worth is
what almost 35 dollars will buy me. I was again devastated and called my Dr.
crying my eyes out. The byetta was the only thing that works for me. He agreed
and we are going to work on it together Monday. Say a prayer.
Mickie
Sorry, I had to vent that out

Mickie…
I read something the other night and saved it for you. It was about a
program that helps pay for drug costs regardless of income. There are other
requirements. Here’s the thing. I can’t remember where I saved it! It was
something hughes-simpson or hughes-simon….i will look around on the
computer and see where I put it. My memory has been awful the last 2
weeks…don’t know what is going on with me. I’ll be 44 on Monday. Maybe
that’s it…LOL

Thank you Demetria, I hope you find it. I did find a drug plan that helps
anyone with costs and it is freedrugcard.us They do help. They brought the
price down from 202.00 to 146.00 but still is not quite enough. Medicaid really
needs to step up and I will keep fighting them until they do. I am on Social
Security and they are part of the deal. I am however going to contact SS on
Monday also and try to get them to put me on Medicare which will just give me a
small copay and no hassel on needed meds.
Mickie
Hopefully my horrible experience will be helpful to others
