Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] I’m Baaaaaaack!

Monday, January 30th, 2006

Hi Gary,

I remember you. Welcome back.
If you remember I started Byetta in February 2006. I lost 7lbs at the
beginning and that was it. Not sure if you remember, me going through
the rash issue and red dots etc. I continued on byetta and like you
have not lost any more weight, so I am not sure if it was the byetta
with the weight loss. I dropped down to the 5 pen and now just
recently went back to the 10. I did not want to come off the byetta
because I believe it truly helped me from gaining weight. I was on a
couple insulins and I gained weight from them, but while taken the
byetta I was not losing but I was not gaining additional weight. This
was to me almost as good as losing weight. Although, I am jealous,
(just kidding) of those who take this stuff and accomplish the weight
loss…..lol I am not jealous, of the fact that they have nausea and I

I did it both ways. First, I used a new needle every time. Then
reading on the list I found out that a lot of people reuse their
needles. I started to reuse my needles. It seemed to me that I
started to bruise again when I started reusing the needles and I had a
little more discomfort. It could of been my imagination, not sure.
But, seeing the bruise is a big depression factor in my mind. It looks
like you are injuring yourself instead of helping your self. ( Mind
over matter.) I started using a new needle with each dose. I have had
no bruising and no pain on injection.

I would have to say, try it and see if it works for you to reuse the
needles and then make a decision based on your experience and financial
means.

I messed up now what?

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

I understand that what I did was a bad choice but what comes next? I am a scout
leader. When a boy has his birthday we have rootbeer floats and the boy moves
up to the next group. Anyhow I had about 1/2 a small scoop of ice cream and an
oz. of rootbeer. I got home about an hour later took my shot and ate my dinner
about 1/2 hour after that. I was sick and very tired that night. So I know
better but, what happens when I forget and have a small snack. I assume it
would be a problem even if the snack was healthy. How long do you have to wait
after an afternoon snack to have dinner or are afternoon snacks a thing of the
past?

Dear group members,
Your postings have been very informative. I am on
Byetta 10, Lantus 100 units at night, Humalog
breakfast and supper, and Glucophage 1000 breakfast
and supper. The dr’s tried me on Actos and Avandia a
few years back. After a month on each my body was
shutting down. I had to take a week off from work. I
could hardly move. Water retention was horrible. Had
chest pains. Half of my body was losing feeling. Told
dr the 25 symptoms. He said "I’m the doctor and I know
what is good for you." I left crying and vowed he was
fired from being MY dr anymore. Within the year after
telling my regular dr that, he was gone from their
office. I think that I know my own body. About a year
later another dr tried to wing Avandia on me. After a

update and what I learned

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Well I went to the doctor today. My a1c was down 1 point over the last month.
I am very glad for that. My bloodsugar was down at least 100 points I am
thrilled with that. I also lost 10 pounds. I am thrilled about that too. I
hope this will work

I went to the pharmacy to order my new 10 mcg pen. It seems my new insurance
doesn’t want to cover this. I hope my doctor can convince them to cover it.

I did some research online and asked my dr. It seems that with the stomach
emptying slower it is better to take oral drugs another time. I will take my
oral meds then wait an hour and take my byetta and then eat in 30 min. I hope
this will help lower my bs too. It sort of complicates my am routine but I will
get this down.

Dry Mouth

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

I have an extremely dry mouth from my Type 2. I have just started
using Byetta (5 mcg once/day (evening meal)) four days ago, and I have
noticed that my dry mouth has disappeared. I used to wake up gargling
with warm water to try and re-hydrate my mouth and soft palate. Now
they are fine.

I have looked through the literature and haven’t noticed a reference
to this benefit of Byetta. Is this a known effect?

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Re: Double Injection

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

I remember being told that there is a difference in taking the 10 pen
one injection and 2 injections of 5 pen. Even though it seems 2
five’s would be 10. It is not the same thing. I also know someone who
has increased their byetta to 3 times a day with the doctor’s
permission. The problem with this I think they said was with the
insurance companies. I do not believe they would pay for the extra
dosage of byetta, so this would be an added expense by the user.

If someone does use the byetta 3 times a day and insurance is covering
all dosages please let us know on the list.

Tylenol

Does anyone here see increases in their blood sugar when taking
Tylenol? I see an 80+ point jump when I take nothing but tylenol with
water.

Double Injection

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

Has anyone taken two injections of the 5 to get to the 10 dose? I have
a brand new 5 and was just kicked up to 10. Can I give myself a double
on the 5 pen so it don’t go to waste?
