Sweets was:Diabvetis II
I thought I would share what has worked for me to stop me from eating sweets and
other carbs that I shouldn’t or cut down on those that I can eat to the amounts
allowed on my diet.
I am not perfect and this took awhile. I started some of it before I learned I
was diabetic. I read Dr. Phil’s weight loss book a few years ago. It really
helped me figure out my mental stuff. Maybe you could look into that. Our
library has one so maybe that is an option for you. Even after reading that and
taking the diabetes ed. class I could not quite figure out exactly what I was
supposed to eat. My MIL had bought the Southbeach diet book. She had offered
to loan it to me. I didn’t want to at the time. It turned out that when I
asked to borrow it this time she gave it to me. I wanted it just for the
recipes. Well I read it and it made sense to me. From it I figured out how I
can structure a meal so that it is healthy for me and for my family.
After I read those two books here is what I do:
I only eat when I am hungry. I make sure that I eat a good breakfast to start
the day- Usually egg. Sometimes with whole wheat toast sometimes just cheese
and vegetables. That seems to help cut down on cravings. Lunch and dinner are
a lean protien, small amount of healthy carbs and a large serving of salad or
other nonstarchy vegetable as a side dish. Snacks are cheese or nuts with a
nonstarchy vegetable. When my bloodsugar is low I sometimes have peanut butter
an apple. This when I do it sets a good foundation so tht I am not so hungry
then it is easy to not eat things I don’t need to be eating.
Some one else mentioned affirmations. I acturally went to Borders and got a
subliminal weightloss cd and a guided imagry cd. I listen to them at night
before I go to sleep. I think it gave me strength to not eat the sweets. I
use head phones so noone else is bothered.
The first thing that you need to do is decide. When you are face to face with a
snickers in the store is the time to decide. Actually just decide right now
what your limits are. If you decide not to eat that then you wont buy it. If
you are not hungry then it is easier to decide not to buy it. If you think that
you must have it then the second thing is to find something healthier. Maybe a
small piece of sugar free candy will help. I think cashews taste kind of sweet
so that gets me over a hump. I also keep some sugar free jello pudding at home
to help out when I just want something. Sugar free fudgecicles help in the
summer. If I really want something very sweet and don’t want to fight it I buy
a small amount and share it with my kids. No leftovers. I also was Dr Oz on
Oprah. I now use gum or breathstripes the strong taste helps.
I hope some of these ideas help you. it has helped me to review them. Also
have a health statement to assist you at the time. For example: I would rather
be healthy than have that snickers.
Good luck to you.
