See there, Demetria Beth, there seems to be another one of us on here who's
experienced the effects of the larger pen needles. I'm convinced that with
my large body size, the 29ga 1/2" needles deliver the medication to the
proper location to maximize it's effect and mentioned this to my doctor when
I saw him this afternoon. He rewrote my Rx to specify the larger needles so
that my pharmacy will hopefully order them and keep them in stock. What I
thought odd was that the pharmacy is in my neighborhood supermarket
(Safeway) and while they only carry the 31ga 5/16" needles, another Safeway
pharmacy about 3 miles from my house has all three sizes in stock. Guess
they just don't have enough demand for them at my store but the clerk told
me their distributor doesn't carry other sizes which is obviously bunk!

no it wasn't a new pen. it was the new needles. went from the 3/16th to a
1/2 inch. longer needles. the pen was at least a week old. i took a shot at
5:15 so will see how it goes.

jodi

Mistakes can be made even with safeguards in place. From what you wrote,
you were not having this severe of a problem until this pen.

well didn't take byetta this am since i was in an ambulance. i guess i hit a
vein with the lantus (no blood aspirated) however i crashed really fast and
glucose tabs and OJ couldn't get my bg up. ran next door and fire chief
rushed me to station 3 blocks away and put me in the ambulance. 2 paramedics
on duty so i was taken care of fine. i just finally ate something and that
was just cheese. will take the shot when i have supper.

i am sure that the pen isn't overmedicated. they surely have safeguards in
place for that. i do fell better even with the episode this morning.

jodi

I think you should call the Byetta hotline - maybe this pen is
'overmedicated'.

saundra, thank you for your concern. i was so sick yesterday that i only
took my morning shot of byetta and took none today! my numbers were just
slightly up after eating the same foods i normally eat. tomorrow, i will
take both shots and see if i get sick again. last night, my son in law made
me some hot peppermint tea which helped somewhat. i was still a bit queasy
this morning and haven't eaten much today. i can't imagine why a needle can
make such a difference when the size 3/16 to 1/2 is not much. 13 months with
no nausea and now to get it so bad would also be weird. my son thinks maybe
i have a bug but have no other symptoms and NO i am not pregnant :) no way,
no how, uh uh...etc. i guess we will see how tomorrow goes.

jodi

Jodi,
I'm sorry you are having problems. Have you tried Ginger Root Extract
<!--more-->
supplements? This helps me. I take one along with Walmart brand
pepcid just called acid reducer. This combo helps my nausea pretty
fast. Please keep us posted on this needle thing. I am curious about
this as I have been wondering myself as I have read people talking
about the difference in using the longer lengths. I have been on it
almost a year. My side effects have varied so much but I think it's
stress. It's been a rough year with my mother passing away, my son in
Iraq, my daughter's senior year in high school, and then the stresses
of daily life with health issues. I do agree with someone on here
that I don't do as well with meat. But for some reason it's just at
dinner usually. I do my shots at lunch and dinner as my endo thought
since those are my biggest meals if I took it at breakfast it would
be kind of wasted since I eat a small breakfast anyway. I can eat
meat at lunch and do fine. I guess my stomach is more sensitive in
the evening. Anyway, I hope you start feeling better.

i can barely stand it anymore. today has been the worst so far. constant
enough and i can't eat or even think about food. i've been on spit for a
year this past april with only the first few days with any nausea and i
think that was nerves. this has to be from using the 1/2 needle. the spit
must be getting past the fat. last year i questioned whether or not the
stuff was being held in the proper temps at the pharmacy due to
inconsistencies i saw in my numbers. now i question if it was needle length!

i don't know what else could be causing this.
