Andrew....

I am not really sure it's the same for everyone. I think it's a ymmv type
of thing, There is a certain time, maybe a few days without eating that
your body stops sending hunger pangs. This lasts for almost 30 days. Then
your body starts "eating" itself. By that I mean actually consuming muscle
mass. As far as the point where it starts hoarding calories....I'm not
sure.

Demetria-Beth

Demetria-Beth or anyone,

I am being lazy today (it is a habit of mine), so I am asking the group,
when does your body go into starvation mode? Is it hours without food, days,
<!--more-->
weeks, or what?

Thank you so much, I can't believe how many doses I've wasted with this first
pen.. I wasn't injecting on the 5, I was trying to inject with the arrow
pointing out... the Army doctors didn't know how to use it, they made me sit and
watch a video but then it was another two weeks before I got the needles...
ugh.. well now I know.. thank you.

I still don't know if I'm doing this right. Are you supposed to inject when
the pen says 5?

*Tammy*

Yes, that is right. Then after the shot turn it again to get to the
sideways arrow. I put it back in the fridge then. Take it out for next dose,

Hi Laura,
I started Byetta 6 weeks ago. When the Nurse showed me how to use it
she told me that she too was on it. She told me how sick she got and
how her BS would drop.
After my first shot I waited for this to happen and it never did.
After 4 weeks on 5. I had lost 5 pounds even while I was on a week
long cruise. Never felt sick or any of the other stuff people talk
about. I had more energy and felt great. My doctor put be on 10 and
I have been on that for two weeks. Again none of those side
effects. I also have lost another 3 pounds. Food that once was a
pleasure is no longer that wonderful feeling. I eat to live now not
live to eat. So I know some have bad side effects but it does not
happen to everyone. I wish everyone did not have to go through what
I read hear because this is a miracle drug.
Take Care,
<!--more-->

Hi Kay,

It sounds like maybe your body is in "Starvation mode" and it is clinging to
every calorie to try and keep the body running. Many people don't know that
you have to eat to lose weight. Staying nauseated all days is a good
indication that you need something to help with the nausea. Once you can
get started eating a little bit more, I think the nausea will correct
itself. The Dr. can give you a prescription for Phenergan. It did the
trick for me.

Demetria-Beth

Hi I also have a hard time with the smells of food. It does not seem to be
getting better. I stay nauseaed all day. I think this comes from the smell
of the food. Fats and meat are something that really gets to me with the
<!--more-->
smells. Another thing I dont like now are hot drinks and use to drink them
all the time. I have been on Byetta since July. I am not losing weight at
a great rate like alot of people. I have lost about 10 lbs. It sure is not
from overeating.
But guess it is better than not losing at all. I think I could only
eat veggies and be happy. Kay

If you're lactose intolerant you might want to try "Almond Breeze."
It is a "milk" made from almonds (although technically nobody is
milking an almond). :) It is fantastic! I've been lactose intolerant
for years and used to drink the Lactaid milk, but discovered this
product recently. It doesn't give me the same gastro problems soy
products do. Make sure you get the unsweetened version (original or
vanilla).

Compared to fat free milk for a one cup serving:

Calories: 86 (milk), 40 (Almond Breeze)
Fat: 0 (milk), 3g (AB)
Cholesterol: 20 mg (milk), 0 (AB)
Carbs: 12g (milk), 2g (AB)
Fiber: 0 (milk), 1g (AB)
<!--more-->
Sugar: 12g (milk), 0 (AB)
Protein: 8g (milk), 1g (AB)

Hope this helps!

Hello Micki, Thanks for the encouragement.
I think you posted that 4 hours after the shot you could eat without
throwing up.

How about trying a tiny bit of milk or one cheese cracker after the
shots then after 4 hours eat more as you can? I could not eat even a
small meal right after the shot at this point.

Also my BG is treated by the Byetta all day, not just around shot time.
I do eat only 50-70 grams carb a day. In regular times try to keep it
under 100 gms/day.

I just can't see taking all these meds and eating high carb, doesn't
work for me.

<!--more-->

Hi....just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Laura and I'm from Baton
Rouge, LA. I've been reading here for a couple of weeks now. I go to the nurse
today to learn how to administer it to myself and will begin taking Byetta
today! I must admit I'm a bit nervous - an awful lot of you are getting sick.
Are there people out there that didn't?
Will let you know how it goes!
