Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] byetta and throwing up also Avandia

I take byetta and avandia 2mg, lantus 40 units and glucotrol 10. Have
you read the suggestions that are posted on the home page. These were
put there because of others going through the side effects. Did you
take your shot and then eat right away? I believe that prevents a lot
of nausea. That is what the rep told my diabetic teacher when I
attended a class.

    Hi Pam,

I believe the first mistake was taking it after your meal. You are
suppose to take byetta before your meal. You need to experiment
yourself which time span works best for your stomach. right before a
meal? 15 minutes? 20 45 60? It works differently on everyone. I was
told recently to take the byetta 45-60 minutes before a meal. This is
when they have seen the best weight loss. I guess it makes you eat
    less.

Byetta is not approved to be used with insulin. There are a lot of
people that do take byetta with insulin and it works well.

This morning was my very first time using the pen, I’m not even sure if I got a
dose…I guess I’ll figure it out sooner or later.

    Tammy,

Did you do the pen set-up before you first injection? If so, and medicine
squirted out, more than likely you got your dose when you injected yourself.

I’m getting mine from an Army hospital and this medication is brand new and no
one there knows anything about it. I watched a video there at the clinic last
week on how to do it. I did prime it first and saw medication squirt out, but
isn’t it supposed to move to another arrow when you inject it? Cause mine
didn’t? And I think I might have gone ahead past two doses… ugh.. I’ll go to
the site and go over it again there.

Tammy - I use the directions that came with the pen all the time,
it has pictures, which helps me figure it out!

    Best of luck

Tammy,5mg isn’t a large part of a cc -I wondered the same thing when I started.
Now I know that it takes a little time for the syringe to register doses. The
10 pen sooner than the 5. The only way I know that the medication was injected
is the coldness at the site and slight chills from the cold medication.
You will feel it in your upper arm easier than in a fat belly.

Well, I Just took my second dose… I know it worked that time and I’m sure it
worked earlier because I was sick to my stomach all day… I guess I’ll figure
out when to eat like everyone else here… I sure hate sticking myself though..
    eww.. it’s a nig needle!

    Sharon,
    Thanks for your input.

So far so good with the shots. It seems to be bringing my bloodsugar down
enough that I can exercise again. I am feeling better. I am not sick very
    often so that is encouraging.
I have not had a problem with bruising. But, when I was pregnant and on insulin
I had problems with bruising a couple of times. It was usually if I gave my
shot too close to a vein. I just kind of had to watch. Reusing the needles
scares me. I would be afraid of infection. Plus a dull needle could be part of
the cause of the bruising. I am not sure. I also have you tried giving the
injection in your leg instead of the stomach. Maybe a different site would
    help.
Your weight loss in encouraging. I am trying to work on that. Maybe with meds
that help I will start losing again.
