This stuff just got written up in Newsweek so I went down to Vitamin
World and got some. It’s an anti-oxident/anti-inflamatory that’s
supposed to do good things for diabetics like reduce capilary damage
and lower blood pressure. I’ll let you know if it does anything for
me.

Flu Shot Reaction?

Thursday, November 10th, 2005

My doctor told me to get a flu shot. Predictably, it made me somewhat
ill, though not as bad as a real bout with the flu. However, in the
course of it, my morning blood sugar peaked alarmingly. Anyone
experienced anything like this after a flu shot or during a bout with
the flu?

FTC and FDA Act Against Internet Vendors of Fraudulent Diabetes Cures
and Treatments

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA), working with government agencies in Mexico and Canada, have
launched a drive to stop deceptive Internet advertisements and sales of
products misrepresented as cures or treatments for diabetes. The ongoing
joint campaign has so far included approximately 180 warning letters and
other advisories sent to online outlets in the three countries.

"We will continue working with our partners in the U.S. and
internationally to make sure scammers have no place to hide," said Lydia
Parnes, Director of FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. "The Internet

Weight-Loss Drug Helps Diabetic Patients

Monday, November 7th, 2005

FRIDAY, Oct. 27 (HealthDay News) — A new drug to help people lose
weight, rimonabant (brand named Acomplia), also helps people with type 2
diabetes shed pounds while improving their blood sugar levels,
researchers say.

Rimonabant is being tested and is approved in Europe. However, it has
not yet been approved for use in the United States. This finding
suggests that rimonabant could be used as a new approach for treating
diabetes where other drugs have failed.

"This is an interesting new class of drugs that probably offers
something new and different to people with diabetes," said Dr. Larry
Deeb, president of medicine and science at the American Diabetes
Association. He was not involved in the research.

Byetta and Glyset Together?

Monday, November 7th, 2005

Are any of you taking Byetta and Glyset together? When I saw my doctor
two weeks ago, he was very happy with my A1C of 5.6 and my 20 lb weight
loss but weight wise, I have plateaued and been there for 2 months. He
wrote me a prescription for Glyset and said it blocks carb absorbtion
and helps people lose weight. I have read about it an see that the main
side effect, if you eat excessive carbs, is gas, diarrhea and
intestinal discomfort.

Are any of you on it or have you been on it? What is your opinion?
Anyone taking Glyset along with Byetta?

I need your opinions before I pay to have it filled. THANKS in advance!!

Mary

Hello.
As you know the lizard does not like me at all. So my doctor decided to stop
this experiment and put me in insulin.
I wish everybody the best of luck, and thank you for your support, words of
wisdom and good wishes.
Good bye everyone.

My Endo visit today

Saturday, November 5th, 2005

Hi All,

Wanted to share my good news. I have been on Byetta 72 days. Had an
Endo appt. today. According to his scale I have lost 20 lbs. And my
HbA1c went from 7.1 to 6.0. And the Average Glucose went from 141 to
111. My blood pressure has gotten low (104 /60 today) and so we are
cutting my dose of blood pressure med in half and my cholesterol
numbers are good so we are going to try cutting that med dose in half
too. He also said if my glucose numbers stay good and improve a bit
more we will reduce the amount of Metformin (currently 1000mg 2x day).
Woo Hoo! It is so encouraging to think of getting off some meds in
time to come.

Lovin’ the Lizard!

Another question

Tuesday, November 1st, 2005

Has anyone else experienced severe flushing since starting Byetta? I love what
Byetta is doing for me health wise. Started taking it Jan. 06. and all of my
numbers have improved. But the last few months I’ve been having what feels like
the worlds worst hot flashes…and I know that isn’t what is happening as I am
70 years old and long past the hot flash stage.

I’ve checked by BG and that doesn’t seem to make a difference. I can be high,
low or on target and in the middle of a hot flash. It doesn’t matter if the
tempature is hot or cold.

Anyone else have this problem or know what might be going on?
