Another new Byetta-ite

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Hello group. I have been diagnosed with Type2 for about 10 years now.
I am on and off in and out of control. Currently out. Just started
Byetta, mornings only, 3 days ago. So far no nausea but definitely
light-headed and a dull headache and sensation of anxiousness. Since I
seem to be tolerating it well enough I will probably start a dose also
at dinner in the next day or two. I am pleased to find this group and
appreciate having and giving support…I’m excited about the
possibilities of this drug.
Regards,
Rowena

Any Exercise Can Aid Diabetes Control

Combining resistance training with aerobic workouts
appears to be the most beneficial for long-term control
of blood sugar than either form of exercise alone.

a1c up

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

I got my a1c results and was shocked. It was up to 6.8!!! I was expecting a
big drop. My daytime numbers seemed great, but the nights awful. I guess the
nights wiped out the daytime. I’m so disappointed.

Vertigo

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005

I remember reading some posts from people experiencing vertigo, which I now
seem to be experiencing. I’ve been on the 5 pen since July 1. Does it make
sense that the vertigo is from Byetta and I’d only now begin that side effect?
I’m also on Lysinopril for high blood pressure and I just got new glasses. I

Started 100mg of Januvia today

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

I guess I was volunteered as a pioneer by my doctor today. As you may
know, (since I have sort of disappeared from this group), I gave up on
Byetta about 4 months ago after valiant attempts to keep it going for
8 months inspite of greate discomfort and loss of about 12 lbs (I am
now back to weighing about 154lbs, which is still underweight for my
height of 6 feet).

Anyway, the doctor started me with 100mg of Januvia as of today. He
told me to cut my Glucovance by 1000mg (I have been taking 2000mg
every day)and he told me to increase my dose of Glucophage to 1000mg
from 500mg per day. So, essentially he cut 10mg of glipizide and 500mg
of Glucophage from my system. Also, he told me to stop injecting 6
units of insulin that I have been injecting. Other than that, he told
me to keep all the other meds the same: Precose, Actos, Altace, Zetia,
Lipitor. Doctor’s comment: "Januvia is a milder form of Byetta with no

Preventing hypoglycemia from colonoscopy preparation

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

Next week I’m due to have a colonoscopy, which of course involves
cleaning
out my gut. And that requires having no solid food the day
before. Am
limited to juices without pulp (apple, lemonade, no
reds)…soda…clear
broth or bouillon…ice pops…water, tea and jello. Bon appetit,
huh??

I’m wondering how I’ll avoid having my BGs drop very low on this
"diet."

Does anyone have any experience on how to best get through this
hassle? (I’m also wondering whether to stop Byetta for that day or
two.)

glucometer question

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

I have a one touch ultra which I received in June when I was first
diagnosed with diabetes. I’ve always had test strips with code 9 on
them. Today I had to begin test strips with 23 on them. I know I got
this code change done correctly. My fasting number was 85. I have
occasionally had 90 and more often mid-nineties, but am surprised at
this low number and wonder if it relates to the different strip. Does
anyone have experience with this sort of things?
