Watch out for allergic reactions though. My doctor had to take me off
them after my face swelled up like a balloon. (This after weeks of
hives whenever I was stressed.) On the way to the emergency room I
brought along a jack-knife in case I had to trach myself. Scary
episode.
Before I went, I had the foresight to gather up all my medications and
bring them along so they’d know what I was on. That saved a lot of
time and trouble. I realized that it wouldn’t always be possinle to
do that, so I made up a special ID card for my wallet. I have a color
printer, so it’s just standard printer paper folded over and glued
with a glue-stick, and then laminated at Office Depot.
On the front is my name, address, phone number and E-mail, and
emergency contact info for my next of kin. There is also my blood
type, the fact that I am insulin-dependent diabetic, allergic to ACE
inhibitors and Cechlor, and have a sleep apnea disorder. It gives my
religion, and the fact that I have a living will on file with my
physician. On the flip side is my complete medication list with
dosages and my Bi-Pap pressures. This is a precaution that I strongly
reccomend for anyone with serious health issues.
