Has anyone else experienced severe flushing since starting Byetta? I love what
Byetta is doing for me health wise. Started taking it Jan. 06. and all of my
numbers have improved. But the last few months I’ve been having what feels like
the worlds worst hot flashes…and I know that isn’t what is happening as I am
70 years old and long past the hot flash stage.
I’ve checked by BG and that doesn’t seem to make a difference. I can be high,
low or on target and in the middle of a hot flash. It doesn’t matter if the
tempature is hot or cold.
Anyone else have this problem or know what might be going on?

Yes, Nancy, I have the same occurance with the inferno ‘hot flashes’.
Also, my appetite has returned with a vengence. I attempt to limit my
intake, but all in all, I see a 10 # increase in my weight which has occured
over the last few months. Also, my BG’s are rising. Not the same happy
camper as when I first started Byetta last March. I am concerned that my
A1c is going up, and I do not want to go on insulin. Any comments? Lanie

I have them too, and I passed the stage when to have them is a normal
occurrence.
What is bothering me that my head is not clear. I feel, like I used to after
having a stroke.
This is my second week on Byetta, and I am wondering if my feelings are going
to pass.

Lanie,
Call the Byetta people and talk with them, you may have a medication that is not
working. I’m running into the appetite thing and wonder if I’m getting the
medication. The particular syringe that I’m using wants to squirt medication
before I load. I called the company, they are going to replace it. I’ve been
thinking of taking an appetitie suppressant along with the meds. my sweet tooth
is acting up and wants to be fed.

Nancy,
I’m 65 and had the same experience. The darn things will happen with one
syringe of medication and not another. The flushing is worse then a hot flash.
I felt like I was on fire from the inside out.

Ellen,
Your symptoms will pass, I felt out of it for awhile after starting the 10 mg,
Don’t give up, your body has to adjust.

I’ve been having the flashes too, but since I take Advicor, I assumed that’s
what was causing them. I’m seeing my Dr later this week and will ask.

Frances, Thanks for the tip. I called them once before, and they sent me a
voucher for a free pen. I hate to be calling again, but really, I have used
this last pen for almost the full four wks., and no positive results
what-so-ever. I haven’t noticed any malfunction; just the hunger and the
higher BG’s. I never thought of an appetite suppressor, as I didn’t need
one prior to now. I hear the Hoodia herb works well. Lanie

Hello.
Please accept my words of appreciation and gratitude for being so attentive to
my dilemma with Byetta.
Unfortunately it is not getting easier for me and my doctor suggested to stop
this experiment.
I have mixed feelings. Of course it will be nice to feel like myself again,
but I had great expectations for Byetta and was looking forward to starting that
medication.
Well, It did not meant to be.
Ellen.
