Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] Re: Another new diabetes ’symptom’

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

I used lidacaine patches on the arches of my feet. I would cut in half
and put across the arch. It is what helped me get a good nights sleep.

I have been an adult on-set diabetic for 20 years. I was 40 and
overweight and I got very little exercise - so I fit the mold
perfectly. For 17 years I took some form of glyburide - metformin -
and avandia. In 2004, after some work with a shrink, I started giving
myself a shot of Lantus everyday. Two years later, in April, 2006, I
started taking Byetta - so it has been 6 and 1/2 months. At 5′10" and
270 pounds, my doctor felt that it was the best chance I had to get
healthy. The Lantus was keeping my blood sugar at a fairly reasonable
level, but the A1c number was around 7.9 - which was not good.

At my last check up I weighed 220 and my A1c was 7.2 - fasting blood
sugar was 113 and everything else was good. So far, I am told that I
am the "poster boy" for this medicine.

At first, the doctor had me stop taking Lantus and reduce the

Weird things happened on 10mg

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

Hello,

First three weeks, no problem. After that? Gnawing pain in stomach. I have
ulcers, and it seemed to aggravate them. Then, two weeks ago I got a rash and
welts on my left thigh. Itched like crazy and broke out in little raised bumps.
Afterwards, I started with the nausea and vomiting. It would happen like every
other day, usually after the AM dose. The PM dose I did fine with, but not the
morning. It was brutal.

As of today, my doc has put me back on 5mg pen twice per day, and 1000 of
Metformin again. Hey, I’ve lost 20 pounds total since I was diagnosed, and I
wish I could tolerate the 10mg pen, but it seems to be messing with me.

If anyone else has had similar issues–it seems, just from the latest posts,
that many have–or have had my problems, but the nausea and itching has gone

Cold

If you can keep a pen out 144 hours a month then couldn’t you travel a
few hours without keeping cold?

Fwd: [Diabetes_And_Byetta] hives?

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Hi Alice,

yes, I have had this problem. It seems to mostly be with the 10
pens. I went back to the 5 pen and did not have a problem. I just
recently went to the 10 pen again and low and behold there comes the
red spot. I actually started to inject on my arms and felt the bumps.
I then started to use my stomach.

I can only tell you that I have been taking byetta since february,
2006. Because I did not want to come off of the byetta my doctor
prescribed a topical cream and it worked on relieving the itch and
spots. I am back to using the cream. It is called mometasone furoate
cream usp. 0.1%

You should contact your doctor and report it to the company.

hives?

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

Well, this is my 3rd 10mg pen and my 4th pen total. I have been injecting into
my belly with the new 10 pen for the last 10 days. Since day one I have notice
a itching on my belly…a few days ago I developed a red rash where I injected
and from yesterdays shot…I have a red raised welt. So today I injected in my
thigh…nothing yet. I did call the Doctor to see what he has to say and am
waiting a call back.

Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks,
Alice

An important paper

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

"My average fasting bg over eight weeks is 131.5 and my postprandial bg has
averaged 103. It seems like most people have higher numbers after eating
than first thing in the morning. The average bg over eight weeks is 118,
so I’m high from the ideal 107 average for the A1C of 5. I figure the spit
really works for me at mealtime, but wears off after eight hours of sleep.
Maybe I’ll experiment with exercising just before bedtime — which will
probably keep me awake. But, if it helps… Thanks for any input. I’m
getting pretty frustrated about these numbers and my inability to lose
weight. I’m even considering gastric bypass. Kathy, MN."

It is unclear what the 131 is. It looks like you have dawn effect that
many diabetics have. When we awaken the body releases glucose from the
liver as an energy boost to get us started. In some diabetics there is an
overshoot in this and high morning numbers result.

Brand new to Byetta

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Hello everyone,

My name is Cheryl and I was just started on Byetta on Saturday have
just completed my third full day. Thankfully no untoward
effects…yet.
I had never heard of Byetta before and actually asked my NP to get me
off Avandia in favor of the new oral drug Januvia she offerd me this
one to try.

I immediately went on line to find out as much as I could besides the
propaganada the drug company hands out.

I thoroughly enjoy everyone comments I’ve learned a lot already and
hope to learn a more from all of your successes.
