High A1C on Byetta
I had my A1C test after nearly 3 months on Byetta, and it was
elevated. It went from 7.1 to 7.6. For all the nausea problems I had
on the 10 dose, it appears to have not lowered my overall bg. By bg
were higher on Byetta alone, so I am going to 5 mcg Byetta and back on
1000 mg Metformin with it. The DR. wants me to stay on the Byetta for
the weight loss, and add more oral meds if necessary. I got off
Metformin in the first place because of diahrrea, but maybe it will
work better this time since Byetta has the opposite effect. Have
others of you experienced a rise in A1C? I thought the point of
taking it is to get better control of bg.
Maybe Byetta is a multi-function drug. Some people are having great
bg numbers and little weight loss, and maybe some like me have the
weight loss effect, but not much help on the bg, and some get the
benefit of both.

Rae,
I’ve just started Byetta and I’m curious about your post. When your A1C was
7.1, were you on the Metformin? And when your A1C was 7.6, were you on just
the Byetta without the Metformin?
I’m asking because what I’ve read about Byetta says you still have to take
something else with it, and I’m wondering if that’s why your A1C went up
instead of down.
Also, are you using the extended release Metformin? For me it made a huge
difference in the diaharrea issue.
I also answered your post because my younger sister’s name is Rae, and it’s
not something I see very often.
Have a great weekend!
