Considering Stopping Byetta
Need some advice and anything else you all can offer. I’ve been on the 10pen
since Sept 4th. The past month, my BS numbers have never been better. Here’s
the problem….the "gas" and constipation has gotten so bad I’m in pain most
of the time. Today I tried some GasX, it helped on the burping. If any of
you have taken metoformin you know the side effect from that is the opposite of
consitipation, lol at least for me it was. I dealt with that and learned what

Brandy: The ‘burping’ eventually subsides with time. This is what a rep
told me from Amylin, and I can attest to it, now. I have been on the 10 pen
since Apr. The Metformin never gave me any side effects. As for the
constipation………well, I think I win the prize here. It is actually
torturous. I take benefiber, 2 capsules of Naturalax (found in health food
stores) a powdered colon cleanser, chased by tons of water all evening. All
this, and still a struggle for me. The constant straining is getting to me.
I am considering a hydro-colonics. I have had them before. I don’t think
skipping the shots are a good idea. I believe one should stay consistent.

Don’t stop the Byetta yet, I had a spell of constipation, bloating, burping,
nausea and hiccoughs at the beginning. Metaformin causes gastric problems,
rumbling, diarrhea, gas. Byetta slows the GI tract so It’s one or the other
depending on the drug. I combated the bloating and constipation by taking the
Byetta with lunch and supper. Using pepto bismal helped the gas, bloating and
indigestion.
My gallbladder was removed several years ago, the end result was bowel urgency
within the hour of eating breakfast.
This is what I do, I planned my meals with enough food combination to prevent BS
lows. I try not to overeat stopping just before I want the last bite. You don’t
have to clean up your plate. Going any further will cause a very full bloated
feeling that won’t go away for several hours. Trust me I know what this is
about, having over eaten on more than one occasion.
Take the Byetta with lunch and supper allowing 5-6 hours between meals.
Use a stool softener, these are different from a laxative or fiber.
Keep Pepto bismal handy for indigestion or diarrhea. I have alot of loose
stools with metaformin. I take it in the evening, if I take it to late, I’ll be
up all night with a grippy stomach. Try to take it with supper or a meal. You
will have to experiment with a system that helps you.

Brandy….
I have the same problem. And this sounds stupid, but the only thing that I
have found to help is prunes. I eat them right from the container. And I
don’t mean just 1 or 2…..you have to eat quite a few. You have to decide
whether it’s better to eat a lot of carbs (prunes have carbs) and get
relief, or don’t eat the carbs and suffer. I haven’t heard anyone else
saying this helps, but it sure does work for me.

what
I shouldn’t eat. I still don’t eat that stuff but I just can’t figure out
anything that will give me relief. I’ve heard this is a common side effect
and
just don’t know what else I can do or take. I have skipped two shots now
and
plan on skipping tomorrow just to see if I can get a little bit of relief.
Maybe I should go eat something that the Metoformin doesn’t agree with? LOL
So if any of you have these symptoms what do you do?

try taking dulcolax every day or the gentle exlax. Or Colase as a
stool softner. If it really bad as the doctor for a liquid laxative.
One that works is lactulose.

may you stand tall as the Redwood,

and may you always bear fruit

I seem to be having similar problems. Two days of constipation follower with a
bout of diarrea. Most of the time I know when it’s coming but I to have had my
gallbladder out and have had times when the urgency says NOW !!!!!!!!!

I have been having the exact opposite problem. I’m not sure what triggers it,
but it happens maybe twice or so a week. Last night, for example, I was up
every 2 hours like clockwork to make a trip to the bathroom. Yes, I know, I
could keep a food diary, but I plan ahead for pretty much nothing and it’s hard
for me to write everything down like that. But, this isn’t a cosistent thing,
thank God. I’d never get through a day at work if I had to go running off to
the bathroom in the middle of class. This morning, I am considering taking an
immodium, but not sure. I think I’m ok, but I have to teach my first class at
11:00 this morning, later than usual, so I have some time to think about it.

Trish,
I take my Metaformin in the evening, if I take it without food I get the trots
most of the night. It is not a consistent thing with me. Use Imodium if you
need to.
