Sorry, forgot to ask.

Hello.
I told you already, that I started Byetta today. So, how long does it take to
start feeling side effects like headache, nausea, etc., and when do you start
feeling full?
The last one is very important to me, because I really expecting to loose
weight with the help of Byetta.
Thanks, Ellen.

    Hi Ellen,

You may never feel any side effects with the 5 mcg, or you could get them in
a day or two. Too, you might when you get to the 10mcg dose…or not. E
veryone’s body responds differently, and only time will tell what yours is
    gonna
    do.

    Hugs,

Ellen, I felt sick right away. I was nauseated and threw up once. Just once,
though. It went away gradually. When I started the 10 pen, the nausea was
worse, although I never threw up. Eating and drinking anything with ginger
helped, as did those sea bands. I think they’re some sort of accupressure
therapy. I stayed on the ten, just one shot a day because I was so nauseated,
for three weeks. Then, I asked my doc if I could go back to the five to see if
that would do the trick for me as far as lowering my blood glucose numbers. My
numbers seem good to me, so I hope I’ll be able to stay on the five. If not,
maybe my body will be more used to the byetta and will accept it more easily if
I have to go the the ten again in the future.

I can’t remember exactly when I started feeling full. I do, though, so I
imagine that will happen to you, too. I also had the headaches, very mild in my
case, and they went away pretty fast.

Good luck. It’s worth it if we can beat this desease or at least keep it from
giving us all those terrible complications. Kathy, MN

    Hi Kathy.
    Thanks for sharing your experience.
I am starting panicking. Yesterday after my first injection for the first time
since I do not remember when I was not constantly hungry. But today my hunger is
    back.
    It is very discouraging.
After making an injection today I noticed a burr at the tip of the needle. Is
it possible that medication was not delivered due to this burr.
What are the indications that medication was delivered?

I think if you can turn the dial to set the next dosage, the last
dosage was delivered successfully. Once or twice when I was getting
ready to give myself an injection, I realized I hadn’t pushed the
plunger in quite far enough at the last injection and couldn’t turn
the dial until I pushed it in further. A drop of Byetta came out when
I did, so apparently I did not give the full dose on the previous
injection. (Does anyone know how many "drops" are in a full 5 dose of Byetta?)

You can also see the level indicator change - hard to tell from just
one dose, but you can see it move after several injections.

I hope you do. However, Byetta has done a great job at lowering my bs, but I
have no nausea, feeling of fullness…nothing. And i want it! I have not lost
any weight either. I dread going back to the doctor!

Ellen, Maybe the group can weigh in on this. I wonder sometimes if I’m getting
my dose of byetta, since sometimes I’m hungrier than usual. I have often read
on this site about people having trouble with their pens malfunctioning. The
little drop at the end of the needle after injection seems pretty normal. Some
inject and then count to ten or twenty before withdrawing the needle to make
sure the whole dose goes in. I do that and still see the little droplet. It is
very discouraging when you experience the lack of hunger — for some of us it’s
the first time in our lives to experience a lack of hunger — and then, all of a
sudden, the hunger is back. In order to not be too discouraged, I try to
concentrate on getting my blood sugar numbers down and just hope the weight loss
will come eventually. I’ll be interested in seeing comments from the rest of
the group about the hunger coming and going and about how to know if the med has
    been delivered. Kathy, MN

    Ellen,
I’m running into the same situation as yours. I’ve reset this pen 3-4 times and
I’m not sure I’m getting the full dose. Keeping the pen cold helps, you should
feel the coldness at the inj. site. I haven’t felt this sign with this pen.
Sometimes the pen will squirt while it is being primed. Try pointing the
needled toward the sky when you set it up, then test to make sure it is loaded.
I think we go through a time when our bodies become tolerant of the medication.
